Yeah, that's the thing. Once you hear what makes a Mezzo so special, you cannot unhear it anymore. Which doesn't mean the Duo GT is a bad speaker in this regard.
Avantgarde always promoted closed basscabins, because of better impulse characteristics. Now they're using BR, which contradicts this, but makes the bass go lower without pushing enormous amounts of energy into the chassis...
Just a bit of info. The Duo GT comes with a plate that can be used to seal the port. It has 8 hex bolts that secure it to the bottom. I prefer the sound with the plate in place but that is going to be room and situation dependent.
Ha Ha! We know your opinions on the greatness of the Trio and the poorness of the other AG speakers, but I'd not switch to the Trio even if funds permitted.
The speaker design is such that the 3 horns are not vertically alligned and the bass section is likely to be far removed from the horns. The only times I've heard the Trios (at a national distributor's own showroom), I was disappointed with their imaging in particular and I put that down to the non-vertical allignment of the horn section.
There certainly IS a reason for the Trios reputation. If room size is not an issue, the Trios with Space horns are killer speakers and have nothing to fear from any other brand or model. Alas, room size and money are an issue
