"Sun moves through the album in a day-time-period (from morning to evening), in a year-time-period (from spring ritual processions to summer harvest songs) or it appears in storytelling forms as a mythical, humanized character - either being involved in the plot or, as an observer, silently watching events unravel.
Most of the songs do not belong to the “living tradition” anymore, and the album itself is highly influenced by ethnomusicological archival work.
Donja Jeka are: Marta Derejczyk (vocal), Barbara Majnarić (vocal),
Joanna Skowrońska (vocal), Sven Pavlović (bells, cymbals, prepared
guitar, harmonium, voice, pan)
Donja Jeka is a Croatian - Polish band, whose music deals with research and interpretation of older styles of vocal traditions. Searching for music’s own logic in traditional and contemporary conceptions, Jeka is trying to bring out their overlapping points and trajectories, with a reflection on music’s once applicable ritual function.
This is an echo of once more sonorous sounds."©
