What is new in my music library? (recent purchases I enjoy)

A New version of Atys by Monsier Lully is always a festive occasion, for me at least!

On any 'decent" system one should (will) get a closest approximation of being present in the middle row in the mid size opera house, such good is the recording quality!

TAPESTRY OF VOICES VOL. 2 unites the music of several contemporary composers in a stirring journey through history, poetry, and human emotion. From the playful yet enigmatic settings of Jabberwocky to the poignant reflection on life and loss in Requiem for the Ancestors—Día de los Muertos and Songs of the Night Wind, each piece resonates with deep meaning. Matilde alle Fontane transports us into Dante Alighieri’s mystic waters of memory and renewal, while Salve Regina offers a luminous prayer of devotion. The stirring aria Sin vos, from the opera Juana, echoes with longing and sacrifice, while Two Dream Poems navigates reality, perception, and inner transformation. Following closely in the footsteps of its previous installment, TAPESTRY OF VOICES VOL. 2 remains an intricate and artistic convergence of ideas that’s sure to entrance those who experience it.©

Amazing choral & vocal works! Recording quality is of demo level as well.

In ACROSS THE OPEN SPACES, vocal ensemble KHORIKOS traces a path from isolation to belonging, from intimacy to loneliness, and from dark to light — all of which can be both crushing and ecstatic. With their ethereal blend and agile, dynamic singing, KHORIKOS performs pieces written largely for and by the group, from reimagined medieval chant to heartfelt settings of contemporary poetry. By standing in a circle and recording in 360°, KHORIKOS has captured the intimate and powerful experience of being surrounded by sound, allowing listeners to follow voices as they bend and move, and to inhabit an otherworldly sonic space. © Navona Records

Japanese prog rock veterans Kōenjihyakkei performed a blistering set to an empty Club Goodman in Tokyo at the height of the pandemic, streamed around the world and consisting largely of material from their 2018 album Dhorimviskha. Those recordings are now remastered by the band’s leader Tatsuya Yoshida for this spectacular live album, in which molten prog, jazz, rock and neo-classical music mingle and contort themselves into new shapes.©
