Thought it might be interesting to share 'test' tracks that are used when listening to new equipment
My list changes a bit because it's often just what I'm loving listening to at the time and the 'test' for me is whether it sounds good. Not a very satisfying criterion I know so here is a list with some more objective criteria that I sometimes use:
1) Roger Waters "Amused to Death" -Track 13: Three Wishes. This has some loopy bass in it and some really crazy imaging
2) Inti-Illimani "Leyenda" - Track 5: Alondras. Some beautiful flamenco guitar (paco pena). Great for speed and realism
3) Hugh Masekela "Hope" - Track 1: Stimela. Great trumpet but also dynamics on the drumming
4) Beethoven's 7th, Carlos Kleiber. All of it really, but the Allegro cranked up loud will really test the ability of an amp to hold the whole thing together
5) Mozart Mass in C Minor, Hogwood. The Kyrie has some amazing soaring soprano which can sound harsh (to my ears) in some systems
There are plenty more I've left out but I'd love to discover some tracks hat others use
