In my case the cost of transport vs. DAC is almost double, if you count the digital cable between them as belonging to the transport for its transmission of data.

MIT SL Matrix Plus AES/EBU digital cable (1.5 meter) $ 1.9 K
Schiit Yggdrasil DAC $ 2.3 K

The transport and DAC are too good (pulling far above their price range) to waste their potential with a lesser digital cable.
