On Sat, I visited Dr Vinyl, (Jose and Joey) to listen to the GMT turntable. When I arrived, the system was up and running and the electronics were the McGary Tube preamp and Stereo Amp. McGary Tube equipment is very sounding. Speakers were the 9 FT tall Sound labs. The Amp was round 30 watts per channel. The system sounded nice on the tracks played by the Dr Vinyl Team. We then switched to Thrax Electronics (preamp and Mono amps) The Heros provided 100W per change and expanded the soundstage.
Overall, my first impression, the GMP was fast and nimble, then we played my music. First up, Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21 In C Major K, (Staffan Scheja) a Bis recording. It was magical. The piano notes floated on space with very delicate transients.
Next Emerson Lake and Palmer, “In the beginning”. Extremely nice Then Jon Luc Ponty, and the track, Computer Incantations – extremely nice. With this track, we then switched to the J-Sikora TT and DS audio cartridge. I was not impressed with the overall sound. We switched back to the GMT and John Mayall, Jazz Blues Fusion, the guitar sounds between John and Freddy (guitar type and amp) was very impressive. I was enjoying this!!
The final album was Moody Blues, In the Threshold of a Dream side 2 (nautilus pressing). The Sound Labs worked there magic on this record. This was the best experience for this road trip.
I highly recommend a visit to Dr Vinyl studio to check out the GMT TT while you can.
