Hello I just replaced my Bryston BR-20 preamp with a XP-22 and it sound lovely adding a touch of warmth and body to the overall system. I just wanted to ask if it’s normal to have the volume in the range 55-75 for home-suitable spl? Below 30 I can barely hear any sound and at volume level 55 I can measure approximately 54-58db with my iPhone. The gain on the power amp is set to 23db.

Thanks for any feedback!

Yes totally normal. For whatever reason, all Pass Pre amps (I’ve had all the current production models) usable adjustment is within the upper ~half of the display range. With all of my pass/first watt amps there is little to no audible sound below 50 (or 100 with the xp32). With the XS the display is inverse, starting at -89.5 with the sweet spot starting around 25 (+9.5 is max).

Thank you very much Axel! So the behavior is the same with Pass power amps, I wanted to buy one but they are so big and do not fit into my furniture.
