See this older thread was brought back to life.

I was in the Santa Ynez Valley wine region (just above Santa Barbara) this past weekend.

I love this area and Paso Robles as well since they remain less developed than say, the Napa Valley, and still offer a very rustic and more relaxed feel. For the most part anyway - presuming you ignore the Chumash Casino outside of Sant Ynez.

Last time we were up there we joined the Evans Ranch wine club. Evans Ranch is affiliated with Gainey and is a higher end offering compared to the Gainey wines. We always have fun in the Evans Ranch tasting room in Los Olivos.

Two Evans Ranch wines stood out this trip - their La Marina Chardonnay and their Las Brisas Syrah.

The Evans Ranch wines aren't in retail distribution but you can buy there and online as well.

We converted to Malbec after visiting a small wine store in a not very desirable part of downtown Atlanta. They put on a wine-tasting class and we just loved that wine. That night almost all of the wines were Argentinian. The carry virtually no well known wines and travel the world buying from no-name vineyards. Most have none of the additives that traditional wines carry and hence, we can drink more of it :D :D at one sitting.

2nd on the list would be Cabs.
