Why, oh why, does vinyl continue to blow away digital?

...I don't use vinyl (not even for sitting), but I love the thread title. I read WBF on my phone, so I laugh with every post because the title I see on the small screen is:

Why does vinyl continue to blow...

Carry on posting! I need the laughs.View attachment 153422

I guess blow is better than suck :)

...see, anything can be given a marketing "spin," even vinyl. And for vinyl to work, "spinning" is a core element!

Honestly, fellas, I am just having a laugh with you. I take no issue at all with vinyl or its proponents. Some of my best friends have records, poor bastards!

It's never too late to see the light, as this reviewer found:

'The NAD M66 in analog bypass mode stunned with its ability to throw a wide soundstage and produce high frequencies utterly free of grain and strain. I’ve heard smooth highs on other systems, but never “perfect” highs like what I heard with the M66. The clarity and silky smoothness of the M66 in passthrough mode revealed that despite the M66’s excellent ADC utilized to digitize analog inputs, a pure analog signal path as implemented in the M66 can clearly, audibly surpass its own very well- implemented digital signal chain with analog sources.'

In high-end audio you certainly don’t get what you paid for, but enjoyment that hi-end audio brings is priceless when done right.
I would say the journey is enjoyable. Few people get to see it done right

Hi Ked. You still have the Allnic 7000. I would like to point out this device that can replace your 5U4G rectifier, a Spacetechlab STR-104-Mk2. I contacted TH. Park, who told me that it should certainly be much better than a normal rectifier, but that of course I have to be careful if using mercury vapor tubes. Imagine the charm of being able to use two 300b instead of the usual rectifier. Do you know it?

Hi, I would not use mercury tubes. If they break, you have to evacuate, clean all walls and belongings before you move back in

I want to hook my turntable up, but it's such a pain in the neck. It's so hard for me to get it dialed in right. I had two pros work on it in the past, and yet it's still didn't surpass my digital. I finally had JR come to my house and that did the trick. Since then it has been taken apart to move. I don't feel i'm competent enough to put it back together. And the digital is so darn good, it deflates a lot of my desire to wade into such a difficult task of setting a TT up properly. Once you have the components for great digital, all you have to do it connect the pieces and maybe fiddle with vibration control. And your done. You have great music.

I use mercury vapor tubes. I'm careful with them. I'm glad this was brought up. I read about cleanup. Oddly AI didn't telll me to use a mask with VOC cartridges. It just said to air out the room and use a piece of paper and tape to clean the mess. I would use the mask.

My mercury was very high at one time. I was fishing for yellkwfin tuna. I got a few and some Dorado. I ate about 80 lbs of it over a year. It took about 6 months of not eating it for my levels to come down. I stick to salmon, rockfish and cod now.

...man we used to roll blobs of mercury around in the palm of the hand in chem class, circa '75. Not saying I recommend that activity, BTW. But yes, I'd use a mask for any dust, busted bulbs, etc.

I hear you about maintaining a well-dialed in LP set up. As I've aged my eyes have lost more acuity than most, and it feels just about impossible for me to dial in a cartridge with a protractor. In my 40's I was quite confident in it; now, subcontracting seems appropriate. I am looking for a good goosenecked USB scope to aid my eyes. That likely would make all the difference. Then all that's left is my lack of experience and my laziness.
