It might be of interest to a lot of wbf readers to share our experiences with very good or even stunning sounding high res files. I propose to start with three suggestions in certain categories such as classical, jazz and pop/rock.
May I start with the following recommendations:

That is true, the album version sounds better even with YouTube quality one can hear that it is a more refined and better mastered.

Those downloads (Sound Liaison) are very good. They have an almost analogue warmth, and the sound-stage is among the best I have heard.
But if people want a taste of the quality that this little independent delivers, download one of the samples. They sound a lot better than You Tube.

Of course but you can still hear how important it is to get it right at the source, for youtube this sounds good.

Kenny Barron & Dave Holland is excellent. The bass sound is so much more clear when there are no drums involved.
Another great example of this format and with a magnificent well recorded upright bass, is Impromptu with Bert van den Brink & Tony Overwater .
I dare suggest that the playing on that download rivals that of the two older masters.

Thanks APP! I'll have to give Impromptu a good listen. The Art of Conversation is an absolutely wonderful album. The tremendous quality of the recording brings out the full brilliance of Barron and Holland. I was fortunate enough to see them at Birdland in NYC last Fall. What a treat!

I think Graceland is an excellent example of hi-res sounding worse than the CD (at least the original CD); I know, different masterings, but still that shouldn't be.

I mentioned this before but the Impromtu recording is superb. Some of the best sounding recorded piano I have ever heard. The Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson sounds sublime on CD too. So much so that I never got the hi res download.

We launched 4 albums together with Yarlung today, and I am still stunned by how great this sounds. Several people in the audience were present during the live recording and even they were floored by how much better it sounded recorded than live. They may not have had great seats, but the microphones were optimally placed.

I was totally captivated by the Toru Takemitsu piece. The first volume was great - this one is stunning. I sat in awe throughout the whole 25mins of it (a 4GB download at 256fs!!)

Yes I also find both albums very good. They are what jazz is all about.
