The ***Official*** Progressive Rock Thread

Amplifier is a odd band, one that I respect and like but could never fall completely in love with. They've made a serious of bad choices in record labels so they haven't gotten the exposure they deserve.

The Octopus was a very good album and a bit of a statement piece, but personally I think I prefer their earlier space rock work like Insider. The band made a serious mis-step with Echo Street which was the follow up to The Octopus. It was a total snooze-fest. They seem to have righted the ship with their latest release Mystoria on Inside Out. It touches on the earlier sound. Inside Out is a good fit for them. Hopefully they will move on to bigger things.

Ken - This is actually my first exposure to them, so any additional information such as what you have provided is much appreciated. I must say I really enjoyed The Octopus and will now go and check out Mystoria.

Just received the new Riverside album - Love Fear & The Time Machine

Man, this is great, mellow prog. Band leader Mariuz Duda (also of Lunatic Soul) and the band have created a clean, crisp sound with nice lyrics that will bear many repeated listenings. His bass lines, specifically in the "Discard Your Fear" track, are fabulous and will give your system a nice workout.
This stuff is in the same league (compositionally and mix) as any Steven Wilson album.
Highly recommended

While browsing Tidal, I noticed they had an exceptional selection of progressive rock. Not only that, they had tons of *ITALIAN* progressive rock. And what did I do? I made a playlist :)

It's about 3 hours, running from the early 70s up to last year. Lots of different bands and styles covered!

Saw them perform last night. Great live band that really engages the audience.

I'm slowing warming up to the new album. We released their debut "Out Of Myself". Still my favorite...

My current love is like the 70s heyday of over amplified B. Paganini/C. Squire bass and unadulterated analog synths and keyboards of Fender Rhodes and Moog never went away.
Mahogany Frog (or as I call 'em affectionately, The Frog). A sort of mutant hybrid of 70s Miles/Soft Machine, w/totally modern ambient and melodic melifluousness.
"DO7" is such a blast from the past.
Any band that lists "Fuzz Muff" as an instrument gets my vote !

They were on a US tour and showed up as guests at one of my barbecues. Funny bunch of guys that got a bit blotto. They asked if they could pitch tents and sleep in my backyard. It took me a minute to realize they weren't kidding.

You nailed their sound - definite Soft Machine and electric Miles influence. I haven't heard of anything new from them in quite awhile. Don't know if they are still together.

Most excellent! I just "Amazon it" and will be here in two days :).

Ken 1 x 0 Amazon :D

Sorry, Don. Pär Lindh Project is the band, Mundus Incompertus is the name of the album.

Am I permitted to post my tool albums in here?
