When they are going to run out of beds and medical equipment the number of serious and critical cases will climb. That number is not bad right now because they aren't overwhelmed yet.

That makes sense.

It occurs to me that another thing which could push the proportion up is this: Many of those 3500 or so cases probably haven't had time to develop into something serious or critical.

Very true Duke, plus the people who haven't been tested yet, plus the ones who are infected and don't even know it.

It's tough to rely fully on China for accurate information.
But we have Italy, Spain, France, UK to get good tips from now.
My heart and soul is with them all. And with us too.

It's NOT the actual numbers I'm looking at, rather the less-than-.3% PROPORTION of known cases that are "serious or critical". Of course the actual numbers will skyrocket, but the proportion of "serious or critical" might not. I can think of things which could push that proportion in either direction.

Of course the number of cases is under-reported right now because adequate testing has not taken place. But my assumption (and it may be incorrect) is that the number of "serious or critical" cases probably IS known with a fair degree of accuracy at this time because those people are probably in a hospital.

Good point, agree.

WTF... I'm trying to empty my wine cellar. Might not be the cure, but damn I'm having a good time!
Wine reduces the awareness of illness,
and a few other things;)

From the opinion piece:

"You told me most people would be fine and kids don't get it. If you close school, won't kids be more likely to come in contact with grandparents, especially if a family cannot afford to arrange child care?"

Why is this a non-sensical question?

Not true, kids also "get" Covid-19, generally their symptoms are much less severe.

If you close schools, kids will not come into contact with anywhere near the amount of people who already have the virus. Thus much mess likely to bring it home to their Parens and Grandparents. If there is one seemingly universally agreed measure by health experts social distancing is the most important factor in reducing the spread if this virus.
