Today I used the spare Covid 19 time to sort my picture library. And I found a folder with some old pictures of my former listening room from 2005 to 2006.

In this times I loved tubes and Horn speakers and created a nice set up:

- Jadis Eurythmie horn Speaker

- Jadis JD1 CD -Drive

- Audio Note Japan / Kondo Neiro Amp

- Audio Note / Kondo Kassai Amp

(Bi-Amping)

- Audio Note Japan / Kondo M7 Silver Pre

- Audio Note Japan / Kondo M7 Silver PhonoPre

- Audio Note / Kondo ANS 7 Step Up

- Audio Note UK DAC 5 silver signature

- Audio Note UK TT3 Turntable complete

incl 6 cable separate PSU Audio Note IO ltd Cartridge

- Audio Note / Kondo ANV-Z & SPZ cables

- Aavik Titan Racks

- a lot of Shun Mooks

This set up was my best Tube/Horn set up I ever owned.

All of the gear was sold to make the move to another house possible :-(

And now I do enjoy a larger listening room and the set up quality is improving again / coming back over the years :)

was a great DAC that time, no competition around.
in todays times some more competition is waiting.
Would love to hear the AN UK DAC in a comparison to todays tube DACs like Lampi.
The AN UK DAC was (in my ears) more vital and engaging, than the early Kondo DAC versions.

Thanks. Always wondered if their lauded Analogue Devices AD1865 chip was competitive or not.

In 2006 my digital music was Red Book standard CD only, the AD1865 was fine.
Since I have a lot of High Res music on my Antipodes K50, the AD 1865 would be not longer my first choice.

But if you were all red book like me?

than I would consider this as possible solution.

I heard the AD 1865 last time fitted in a the ANK 5.1 Signature DAC, professional edition

(Digital Pete fitted version)

in comparison to Lampi Golden Gate 1. Source was my Oracle 2000 CD Drive.

Both were on a similar level. Tube Rolling made a bigger difference, than the two DAC concepts as such.

These ANK kits look interesting. Thanks.

Based on your experience with the M10 Sig Pre, id say that you would also be impressed with the Dac5 Signature or 5th element, if you could find a deal. It does 24/96

Absolutely. Pity it only has a coaxial digital input. Not sure if the extreme server has such an output option? I believe the AN Cobra integrated amp has a dac with USB input so it must be possible?

I wouldnt expect to see usb in an AN DAC. They seem to keep stuff very NOS and basic. Id expect that the Extreme can do RCA based SPDIF without too much trouble.

Audio Federation in Cali, goes to shows with a Level 5 CDT + Dac 5 Sig paired with Acapella Integrated and Acapella Horns. It is a fantastic demo in my opinion.

I kind of felt the same and was surprised to see the USB input in the Cobra. I guess at the Cobra's pricepoint they are trying to appeal to as many people as possible. The 24/96 is not actually an issue for me as I don't have DSD files and the rest is 99% redbook.

AN UK Gear doesnt get too much press on WBF, however it is top notch from my experience.
ANUK has never shouted from the rafters in my experience preferring a more subtle approach than glorious hyperbolic praise.

I think im incorrct about 24/96. My memory is saying it is an 18 or 20 bit Dac chip. So maybe 20/96 max.
