A small upgrade in speakers... The CLXArt a true masterpiece!

I am not the only one that find the CLX a little thin at higher levels, and as most full frequency electrostatic speakers dynamics are not on level with good hybrids. Most hybrids do not do imaging and spooky in the room voices as well as CLX or even CLS wich is a speaker i like for some music, but hate for more complex dynamic renderings. The Statements do everything very well, and my comparison was to them. As for your experience, i meant with the Statements, few where made, and not many have heard them. Studio sound does not really compare, as the mixing rooms in general are relative small and have very controlled sound. A owned a commercial studio with a large SSL mixer pult and a Protools program room for a few years in Miami. With a large 40K Dynaudio based custom built speaker system driven by 3 separate Chord amps per side in the main room, great for mixing but not able to do what the Statements can. Quite a few professional musicians/DJ‘s and famous mix engineers where impressed with these speakers. As for your tone, you seem to be a perfect gentleman, and i do find the CLX to be a great speaker that i seriously considered buying myself.:)
I find them thin in the midrange as well and bass is very lean. They cart do dynamics either . The statements are a whole different ballgame and a stunning speaker for all types of music.

Hey Gary (Addicted to hifi)

The message from Daniel M was in Oct... it's Jan 2021 mate! I've already replied to that post and exchanged a few notes, so DM is well aware of the type gear we both have.

I'm not getting into debate here as to who's system is the best and what's the ultimate performance and all that sort of bollocks. It's pointless.

You have McIntosh gear and use nothing else, Maggie 30.7's and now Audience cables and you feel they are the best in the world! So be it. Looking for a black cat in a dark room, still chasing and claiming the ultimate... sadly it doesn't exist. Just enjoy what you have without putting down others systems.

You don't even like CLX's, you don't like CJ gear, you don't like Esoteric gear, and you certainly don't like Nordost cables or Rega TT's. To you this gear is "entry level." You've made that pretty clear in your last text message. In which case why bother even replying on this forum? Oh I forgot, you got kicked out from Stereo Net...

Anyway, all I see is three major issues here:
1. Arrogance
2. Insecurity
3. Lack of education

I strongly suggest you upgrade these three areas before upgrading cables.

It might also steer you in the right direction and allow you to respect what others have and appreciate the systems others have put together. We all have different tastes and preferences in music and gear. If McIntosh and 30.7's were the best, then all forum members here would own the same thing. Clearly that is not the case and the very reason we have forums. To openly discuss, debate and help each other out. All you can do is critisize. That's an inate trait you have.

BTW, many thanks for the kind words on the room, much appreciated!

I don't have any Insecurity issues whatsoever that's why I will proudly proclaim that room is mine. Where else would you have possibly ever heard CLX's in Melbourne? There's no need to beat around the bush, just get straight to it.

Cheers, and enjoy those fine tunes on the best system in the world! If you feel it is, simply because JV said so in a TAS review.

Where have you ever heard ML Statements G-man? Yet you make expert claims without the actual knowledge.

I hope some day you will eventually learn how to appreciate what others have and learn to respect their efforts in what they've done to achieve a particular sound. Not a mass market sound.

Be safe, keep well, and look after yourself.
Take care,
RJ

I don’t claim to have anything the best. You certainly don’t know what good sound is and how to set up a system correctly.in fact there is definitely something wrong with your hearing because your system sounds absolutely horrible.that’s the very truth. I like the clx but not with entry level gear and a awful room Setup .I have heard them sound very good but at your place I wanted to cry because I was so disappointed.your A great writer that’s for sure but you need hearing aids.no idea what good sound is.

We all do have different tastes and I understand that but when I hear a high end setup that’s in the kitchen and sounds horrible I cart believe myself.sure a good system deserves a good room Or what’s the point in buying it.

Hey G-man Correct!
Infact I'm now considering running the kettle and dishwasher just to add a bit more depth in the so called thin midrange that you've promptly noted.

Our living room is an open plan, not sure if you know what that even means...
It was purpose built that way, no dedicated room, so that we can all share. My family enjoys their music plus mine, therefore it's not a selfish idea that I had or wanted to have. I've always had my systems placed in living rooms. Only our demo rooms were dedicated when I owned the dealerships. Those are for potential customers not family.

It's certainly interesting when you make such claims G-man. Infact for someone who has 30.7's placed in a dedicated room with a shop full of speakers, plus has huge triple stacked Klipsch horns (godzilla's!) Placed directly behind the maggies, that's a great sound indeed!

No idea how dipoles work mate, and I'm the one who requires hearing aids...

Mmm, I'm thinking of considering hearing aids with Audience cables, or perhaps McIntosh blue meters on the side. It will look stunning! Not only that, my ears would get stung!

Look after all G-man. Enough said, this is going no where.

I'll reply to more meaningful comments and educated discussion. Feels like kindergarten whenever talking to someone like you. It's unfortunate.

I'm going to sit back and enjoy what I've got in my particular room, simply because I'm enjoying the music.
Cheers and a big woof!

No I didn’t know myself.I wonder what will replace them.

I would bet you $2 to $1 that the CLX Art will not be replaced.

Yes I am actually thinking the same because martin Logan are going hybrid which to me sounds better.pure stats cart do bass or dynamics in my honest opinion.my 30.7s on the other hand have excellent bass extension and good dynamics.

I can't agree that Martin-Logan is "going hybrid." Martin-Logan has always manufactured hybrid loudspeakers.

I suspect that the CLX Art is too esoteric a product to conform to the more consumer oriented business model of Martin-Logan's current management. I suspect Martin-Logan has not sold many CLX Arts in recent years, and I suspect Martin-Logan does not want to have to have a whole marketing strategy dedicated to a single product.

Management may also feel that selling one model of a very high end pure electrostatic speaker confuses the marketing message of the benefits of the hybrid loudspeaker topology of their numerous hybrid models.

G'day Ron,
Certainly nice to hear from a former ML owner, the Prodigy's were definitely special!

From what my fellow mates on the ML owners forum have discussed is that ML doesn't have the resources nor parts available to dedicate further production of the CLX's. Therefore, these are in limited numbers only, and just 7 more pairs or so will be made. Plus, the production run is too costly, it's very labour intensive to run full swing.

Now all of this info came from several sources but I'm not sure it's official as yet, simply because ML have not stated this on their website...

So we'll have to see what holds for them in the future, as was the case with the Statements, again a very high cost for production and maintenance. The good news is that ML does have a certain stock of available parts to keep existing customers going. So that's a bit assuring to know. In any case, as for me I'm not getting any younger, I might just retire with a little tube integrated and a nice pair of refurbed Apogee's from Graz or Audio Analysis panels. That's only if these stats have hit the end, and I have no other choice...

Cheers Ron, keep well and be safe.
Best, RJ

I have heard the prodigy’s driven by an all burmuster flagship components and I can tell you the sound with simply excellent. This was one of the very few times I have heard Martin Logan speakers sound good to my liking.

Martin Logan may have made their “soft” announcement as I can no longer find the CLX Art on their website this morning and noticed they increased the price of the Neolith quite a bit. Seems decision made.

George

Hey George,
Yes, I just noticed that now as you brought it up. Well I guess they do have their reasons. As far as current / future CLX owners are concerned, hold onto these legendary stats as long as you can. They're certainly one of a kind and I worked extremely hard to acquire a pair. There's no other speaker I would rather own. Just a personal preference, that's all. Only CLX owners will know how passionate I am about these.

Enjoy those fine tunes, best and peace to all.
Be safe out there, especially in the US & UK.
Cheers, big woof RJ

pure stats simply don’t sell well anymore because there very limited in there performance.

I agree that their performance is limited in terms of versatility with different types of music and room requirements. In the right circumstance their performance can be quite compelling but I guess there just aren’t as many folks willing to live with that limitation any longer. For what it’s worth I auditioned Neoliths and just never could connect with them. Listened to CLX Arts with McIntosh 2301’s and really liked that combo a lot. Then I heard Wilson’s and I too was no longer willing to live with the limited optimum performance envelope as for me Wilson Alexx performed better with all the types of music I like. That said ... if I had a second room I would have a set of full range stats because the things that they do well ... well is kinda magic.

Spot on George fully agree with you.stats and Macintosh go very well together. Wilson’s are excellent speakers would love to own them one day.for now I am enjoying the magnapan 30.7s.
