A small upgrade in speakers... The CLXArt a true masterpiece!

Are you running subs with your CLX? If so are you running full range or high-passing the main speakers? I’m considering that route possibly using the JL Audio cr-1 crossover..
Watch out, that crossover has no phase adjusment, you need a sub that has it.

Hi Daniel I don’t own a pair of clx speakers. I am using magnapan 30.7s.yes I would say it’s a excellent idea to run subs with the clx.a first class subwoofer should improve the full range of the clx even the mid and highs will sound better.there are owners of the clx who like them as they are and wouldn’t add Anything to them.

I would say so, they’re 10” sealed subs so likely faster than big ported type subs, provided phase is properly adjusted.
Hey Daniel,

Being following the AG horns thread, I didn't realise I was actually the OP who created that thread, what a great thing eh?

Anyway, just came across the new Carbon series subs by REL. Marslo is using these with his Trio's and I was thinking if the material used on these new REL's is carbon, which is light as, that should be a fantastic match speed-wise for stats and other panel type speakers.

The majority of subs I've tried with the CLX's didn't do it for me. The ML balanced force subs are just about quite right but I still prefer the CLX's full range. Most of my tastes in music don't require it but there is another chap here who listens to organ, and large orchestral works. I mentioned the new carbon REL's but we can't seem to get any info or demo's on this, perhaps it hasn't arrived in Aus yet.

What are your thoughts?

Cheers mate, and enjoy those fine tunes!

That’s the great thing about the magnapan 30.7s no sub woofer required what so ever and thanks to my mcintosh c53 preamp I can use the superb equaliser to boost or cut the bass with out any loss in sound quality.

Yes, it's very tricky to integrate subs with panels, especially stats. Ribbons and stats move in varied speeds, nonetheless both are faster than cones / dynamic driver types, it's just plain physics.

Still keen to hear what Daniel has to say and other stat owners.

Marslo has replied on AG horns thread, and I asked him the very same question. I had suspected these would be the challenges.

Got my audience front row balanced xlr interconnects and speaker cables. Wow what a difference I wouldn’t believe it if some one told me.the sound is now much better in terms of bass control, clarity, definition, detail and dynamics.it was already excellent but I really didn’t expect this level of improvement. It’s like you are at a live performance now.I simply haven’t heard anything that comes close. Must call peter and evans over again for another listen. They fort it was very good with my old cables boy are they in for a surprise.

Ordered my koetsu urushi wajima mc cartridge. Cart wait to get it and hear it. Being told it’s one of the finest cartridges in the world regardless of price.

Ah, nice one there G-man. That's good to know.

Also suggest that you move your post on the actual Maggie's 30.7's tab, that way other maggie owners and those interested in 30.7's can get a better idea into your upgrades and cables etc...

Posting about 30.7's on a CLX thread seems a bit of a high jack... but it's your decision. Just a thought...

Yes I totally forgot it was a clx thread.

Nice one on the Koetsu G-man, those Koetsu carts are really special.
Also suggest placing your post under the vinyl tab. There you'll see far more insight into specialised carts, such as Koetsu's and others highly regarded. You'll get more info and meaningful discussion in those threads. Have a look under the vinyl category, you'll find it there.

Enjoy those fine tunes!
Cheers, RJ

I owned 2 rel stentor subs 20 odd years ago. At the time they were cost no object best subs you could buy.i sold one to my brother and he still has it.for me I don’t like rel subs.

big dog I hope your not thinking of a sub . It wont work in the area you have your clx art set up.just an honest opinion.
No way mate, not me.

If you read my posts to Daniel and Marslo closely, you'll see that i clearly mention another fellow CLX owner.

Infact he just sold off his plasma tweeter horns and got CLX's from my Spore dealer. His choice of music is mostly organ and large orchestral works, hence a sub to add a bit more depth and weight in LF would benefit. He was nearly closing on the ML balanced force subs but when I mentioned this new Carbon REL sub, the purchase is on hold.

I'm thinking that since the REL carbon is made from "carbon fibre" then perhaps this is where it can match the speed and agility of panels...
Marslo gave insight to his REL's matching with his AG Trio's, not an easy integration but do-able.
Also as Marslo mentioned, it depends on the recording and mastering process. I just see far too many variables.

The funny thing is he actually ordered the Neoliths before. After he visited my place he decided on the CLX's with subs instead. He was extremely amazed at how well it portrays a live image in full holographic effect, and the depth in soundstage is amazing, Roger that captain!
Especially, now after the monoblocks arrived after their special SE upgrade, along with a few other things adjusted... sounds bloody awesome!

For the type of music I listen to, subs don't work for my tastes, unless kiddo was having a rave party! Boom boom, doof doof... that sort of thing.

Cheers mate, have a good one now.
