Actually, we don't know if the recording sucks...just that your reproduction of it was less than impressive. But wait you have already stated your comments. It sucked let move on!

Prolly this:Answer the question! What version of Shostakovich is it? If you want someone to post up on it. There are only dozens of recordings...given their variability, using the same one is rather important to the exercise.
BTW, where is my Perlman? If you won't play, how can you expect anyone else to?
You need to calm down and stop deflecting. I'm not attacking you, not judging anything but your videos. Only interested in open discussion as I stated. I believe I continue to act accordingly, if you are unable, let me know and I can indeed move on.
I didn't make any specific comments on the Shostakovich video because I don't have any comparison points. I have the impression it is the Haitink recording, but I can't be sure. If you truly are interested in honest comments as you keep saying, this is the only way to get them. I hope you are after all the bravado and coward calling you did back there.
3 pages of posts later we have the source? You rendered this youtube recording of Gergiev through your system?
If that's the case, and if you stick to your guns that the video is representative of your in-room experience, my honest assessment is that your system is just gutting the source.
Low end seems pulled forward with a hard to describe transition to the mid-bass. Upper bass is pushed backwards all the way to the low-high register, and then suddenly the highs are forward again. The low string pulls in the very beginning of the movement seem to have percussion behind them (they don't), very offset from the original signal. The violins and violas seem to be behind something and spread thin all over the place. The highs are never piercing, but they are quite disconnected from the music, they just show up out of nowhere.
There is the sense of dynamics and omfh to it for sure. But I'm struggling to connect it to anything on the other side of the wave. If I had to describe your sound succinctly it would be a V or a W shaped presentation, but not just on the power response. Dynamics are all over the place, the high-mids sound like they almost have reverb, and at the same time that everything sounds lively it also sounds muffled.
I'm still very much convinced your phone recording is responsible for a lot of these artifacts. They seem quite typical of shitty phone recordings, just to an extreme.
Oops, I almost forgot, let me give you a clue of what’s going on with the Remastering process as you are obviously oblivious of the elements at work, “convolution”, look it up…. You might learn something today!
I doesn't matter what tools you use and how many terms you know, you might use them wrong just the same. The fact you use convolution filters, can even say the word, means only that, you use them and can say the word. Your video is still your video and the results speak for themselves. Notice at any point you can say the sound is not representative, your phone sucks, and I'll be left with nothing to say.
Case in point: I know what convolution is. I taught it on 2rd year integral calculus courses, also on specific signal treatment techniques to my phd and grad students. I also developed a new (non-general) fast convolution method to use in high order spectral methods, implemented it on distributed high-performance codes and used a few thousands of compute hours in the largest supercomputing centers in the world doing fluid-acoustic simulations.
After all this term dropping and muscle flexing, I wouldn't dare claim superiority (lol) or special knowledge (lol) on how to apply convolution synthesis to audio signals. None of this leaves better equipped to use closed box solutions that use convolution. I'm not any closer to audio nirvana by knowing these things. I am indeed obviously oblivious to what you do with your system, I didn't study it, and based on your results, I see no reason to at the moment.
Sorry for the flex everyone, but it was worth it. It's not everyday I get to deal with a predictable higher power.
Take care @Carlos269 and have fun with your projects!
Congratulations Carlos on destroying a great piece of music...you must be proud! All I hear is you destroying a good recording to satisfy some kind of fetish you have about thin sounding highs that you consider "refined". You must have a phobia around wooden bodied instruments because you have done your darndest to get rid of any hint of wood in your sound. It most definitely sounds more refined than the YouTube video that you posted. My recording has more resolution and articulation. The YouTube video of the original sounds muted by comparison. Just imagine what my WAAR systems sounds like in the room.
Let’s hear a video of your system playing this in your room so we can have a basis for your comments.

Seriously, you have gutted the string section of all lower midrange and as a result the strings are squeaky noises without body. The woodwinds are wind without wood. Yours does not sound more refined...it sounds emaciated. There is much more articulation and tonal resolution in both the violins and the woodwinds in the original recording. Do you actually even go to live classical concerts? Have you ever heard a Shostakovich symphony live?
Like what you like but...sheesh!![]()
I did with my other videos...enough said.Post your video Brad. Let us all hear what it sounds like in your house. Talk is cheap. Post your video and shut us all up. Let’s hear your wood! Come on!

Agreed. Carlos's video is a complete disaster for all the reasons you mentioned. I am also wondering if Carlos every attends live classical concerts, because he seems clueless. The YouTube video of the live concert that Carlos criticizes sounds 100 times more natural.
I did with my other videos...enough said.
No, Ron you are not a referee…I have already posted many videos of my system…one can figure out what it sounds like. Not that I am the referee, but if I were the referee, I would agree with Carlos that at this point it's kind of incumbent upon you to post a comparative video -- preferably of the same performance and recording.
What you are doing is not lost on anyone. You make all recordings sound similar and to your taste…Great. But then you claim it as some kind of universal achievement. All we can do is shake our heads in disbelief about what you think is superior sounding.Al it is simple, listen to the YouTube video. The WAAR system is for me. I shared the videos to show others what I have been able to accomplished. No one else in the world is doing what I’m doing. Lost in all the noise from Brad and Ricardo is the fact that the system can easily be dialed in to meet either one of their preferences. It can even be adjusted to sound like you want it to. Right now it is configured to sound like “I” want it to. Small minds do not lead to progress!
