I never had world class instructors, But I did play a magnificent alto saxophone and a good Yamaha piano at least well enough to entertain others for most of my life. I never found that that in any way diminished my desire for better and better stereo systems.

I don't play anymore. While building a set of subwoofers I had designed I accidentally sawed off three of my fingers. The life of a brain damaged woodworker is fraught with danger.

Please take this in good faith and with a dash of humor—it's all about the post title anyway.

After hearing AlsyVox at Munich last year and again this year, I have to say, they’re very good! That said, in 2023, I ordered the Magico S3 2023, and this year, I’ve upgraded to the Magico S5 2024.

Clearly, the title didn't work for me.
 
I heard them at The Show several years ago and they were impressive on a trio but not on a bigger jazz band of 12. Assume that they are equally good in a non-show condition. They sounded wonderful but possibly too big an image. I can't afford them and they appear to be too large for my listening room anyway. I'm glad I was able to purchase Von Schweikert VR9 SE Mk2 upgraded which work out great in a 20X15X10 custom built listening room. I purchased Westminster REIs to power them (they're coasting) replacing high powered tube amps.

Next time I hear the Alysvox, I want to hear more challenging music such as a Shostakovich Symphony (No.5 would be nice) or comparable Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances, The Who Live at Leeds, maybe some Steely Dan or Yello. Maggies and Devores sound great on vocals and guitars but not on big dynamic music like those mentioned. For the price, Alysvox should be capable of reproducing them nicely. Why not post a video of that?

Where are you located? In the US we have 10 different locations (Rhapsody and customer locations) that you can hear Alsyvox. At Munich we played big classical and big band taxing pieces at times. Your room was big enough for Alsyvox speakers, even Botticelli but you have great speakers with the VR9's! Enjoy!

Northridge, CA. I was attempting to visit the Palm Desert(?) location in March when I was there but had to return home after one day.

Were any videos taken of the big band or classical presentations?

I have a friend/neighbor whose room is 20X20X10 and his YG Sonya 2.3s just sound too small when playing orchestral music. Could also be his other equipment. I bet the Alysvox would sound fuller than his Sonyas (he added subs as well).

Thx. Actually the CA location is now in Sausalito, CA. It was formerly in Palm Desert.

I don't think there were any videos taken as in the show the room was filled with people all the time. Doing videos is better in a home environment, although I am of the opinion if you want to hear big band, large orchestral it's best to hear it in person vs videos.

YG are VG speakers of course, all personal preference, your friend probably loves them and good for him.

From a room standpoint, I hear you. Having heard the AG Trio G3 with dual basshorns, I was really impressed. I first heard them in Nov 2022 and they really got me thinking about the next move. The key is, just as you say, room. They are BIG. And with the basshorns, it means a minimum footprint of 5' x 5' per channel and I think realistically it could be about 50% or more bigger than that.

And so it comes back to speakers that can reproduce exceptionally well given the room, the equipment, etc, etc. Hence where you have found by all accounts a remarkably well designed speaker with lots of adjustability, and I have been with Wilson all these years with their own combination of scale, dynamics and adjustability.

Congrats on the REIs, by the way. Definitely intend to hear them someday.

Let's not forget the "little" model, Tintoretto, which is cheaper (but still very expensive), and is still 144cm tall. It is "officially" said (French distributor's website) that they are meant to "15 to 45m² rooms; the quality is strictly identical to the larger models.", with less deep bass probably, "25 Hz to 40 kHz flat, 93 dB/1w/1m" says the website. (I never heard the Tintoretto.)
An optional dedicated external filter seems to be available here too => Tintoretto "X".

(I only heard the Botticcelli X though. As medium-sized panels fit my room very well, I had been vaguely tempted by the medium-sized Tintoretto, but I can't afford, alas)

Wow, thanks for the link. I heard about a dozen so far. Again, the Magico S3 Mk2 sounded dull/uninvolving. The soundcastles sounded alive. Could be the recording or video but it just reaffirms my lack of affinity for Magico. You are correct, it's better to hear complex music live than Youtube videos.
