There are a few Astor piazzolla fonè recordings that are so good... as a fellow Argentine I feel compelled to recommend them highly. agree with others on the jazz, classical guitar, and violin/piano arrangements being excellent too.
We should ask David but my memory is he loves the 1.1mV cart and started requesting lower output given his system (efficient horns with lamm pre and amps). Just throwing that out there. I don’t judge a cart by its output.
The Emia LR phono really does deserve its own thread. I just bought mine last month after a demo from Emia and the tldr is that it’ll stay with me into the distant future. One of those rare pieces that put an end to the yearning.
I have nothing but good things to say and gratitude for Dave and Jeffrey of EMIA. They are awesome guys that love music and are super passionate for their craft. They have been amazingly helpful throughout a few changes to my system. Like the banpuku and bazelio, I picked up a EMIA AVC preamp. I...
Like you, I was also trying to demo phonos in house and got lucky to do that a few times thx to some dealers and friends. I ended up getting the EMIA LR phono, which drops the caps even in the riaa eq section. Can also vouch for their outstanding SUTs (copper or silver) wound to match your cart...
For sure man, happy to swing by with it and enjoy some tunes! You're welcome here anytime to demo it with the Emia phono stage, I can maybe arrange another phono demo or two if curious.
Jack Roberts review was a good one, and I ended up choosing the Emia in part because it was easy to demo at...
Congrats Mike, excited to read about your experiences with this awesome table. Bucket list table indeed.
Spiritofmusic, as to other modern idlers, perhaps at a different price point, but is Torqueo new production as well? Would be fun to compare some of these turntables (including the likes of...
My three faves were (in no particular order), YG Hailey 2.2 on the Luxman m900, Thraxxx room, and the Stenheims with the Technics table and CH stuff.
Next three notables to me were Evo Acoustics with Dartzeel and Wave Kinetics, Wilson Tater Tots on the integrated Luxman, and the Horning...
Great write up Keith! I was the lucky pal who went along for the ride. My experience mirrors Keith's very closely. I hadn't heard Rockport before and it's definitely on my radar now for future demos and shows. For me, the missing microdynamics, air, and a certain muted sound (eg, on drum solo on...
This is interesting. People were pretty unanimous in preferring the MM 33s over the 45s when they were released. apparently KG had changed a few things in his setup (cabling and such). It would be surprising for this latest batch to be a deviation from that. But if someone isn't into any of the...
