    Does Everything Make a Difference?

Well, sort of. A long time ago there was a reviewer at TAS named Enid Lumley. One of her things was that for the best sound the listener needed to be naked.

    Does Everything Make a Difference?

From following along with your previous posts I’m not sure why you’re invoking the pharmaceutical industry in support of your views. They are after all, the epitome of double blind testing. The use of the drug being tested vs. placebos is at the heart of their research.

Does DSP belong in State of the Art Systems?

I use convolution filters created for me by Mitch Barnett. They are of course software based so there are no additional chipsets involved. They are in the system before the DAC, not after.

More Consensus That Streaming Is An Inferior Format & Not High End?

I’m aware of that. I’ve bought quite a bit of music directly from Qobuz. I doubt that I have more than 10 or 15 Qobuz albums in my library at any one time. If I like it I buy it and then delete the online version from my library.

More Consensus That Streaming Is An Inferior Format & Not High End?

It doesn’t. I only use Qobuz to audition new music. If I find something I’m interested in I buy it.

More Consensus That Streaming Is An Inferior Format & Not High End?

I’ve followed this thread from the beginning and I’m not sure exactly what everyone is considering “streaming”. I’m pretty sure everyone considers listening to Qobuz streaming but what about locally sourced files? I have over 1,000 CDs that have been in a disk tray exactly once. When I play...

    My First HiFi Show Experience

I hadn’t been to an audio show in quite some time so I went to the recent Audio Advice show in Raleigh. Without exception, no matter what equipment was being demonstrated, the two characteristics being promoted were how much bass was produced and how loud could it play. Not my cup of tea.

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

Evangelist noun evan·ge·list : an enthusiastic advocate an evangelist for physical fitness I’m not sure why you took offense at my use of the term, that wasn’t my intention. In fact, Guy Kawasaki used to wear the title of Apple Evangelist as a badge of honor when he was promoting Apple many...

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

Apple Music does have an API and can be integrated into other services. However, it does not supply all of the information including data dumps that Roon requires to fully implement their experience. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/applemusicapi

    Lenbrook Acquires MQA!

Do we really have to do this again? Can’t you just drop it? You’ve been an MQA evangelist since the beginning, we get that. No one is going to change your mind and you aren’t going to change theirs. You’’re excited because someone showed up to beat the dead horse. How about if we all just move on?

Anyone else find video reviews annoying?

Like a number of previous posters here I prefer to read reviews while I listen to my system. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a single review of an audio product. One thing I’ve been doing with written reviews for some time is having a reviewer saying he played such and such a song and...

Robert Harley makes efficient use of his time.

Well, it might end up being the end of an era for me but for now I still get useful information from the music reviews and even descriptions of the things heard from the music used in a review. I use Qobuz to listen to whatever musical choice was mentioned to see if I hear the same things or...

Robert Harley makes efficient use of his time.

As far as doing the review at the dealers he suggested that the amp was too heavy to install in his room and limited in availability. However, the amp weighs quite a bit less than the speakers that made it into his listening room and as far as not being available, if the manufacturer doesn’t...

Robert Harley makes efficient use of his time.

The beginning of this post has previously been covered in another thread but to recap: In the December 2022 issue of TAS Robert Harley reviewed the $350K Burmeister 159 monoblock power amplifiers by spending two days at a dealer auditioning them instead of in his home setup. Part of that time...

Why doesn’t dCS partner with CH Precision for transports?

There’s another choice. I’ve lost track of the number of my CD’s that have been in a player once while they were being ripped. Bit perfect files without the error correction built into CD players. I think I get the advantages you mention without the cost. Plus the versatility of searching my...

Quick review of Sonore Sonic Transporter and Ultra Rendu

Quick review of Sonore Sonic Transporter and Ultra Rendu

Actually, it’s not. I was just over on the Audiogon forums and there were half a dozen rave reviews of Sonore Rendu products, one after the other. I can’t remember the last time I read a Rendu review prior to last week. And as I posted earlier in this thread, I’m a fan of the Rendus and paid...

Quick review of Sonore Sonic Transporter and Ultra Rendu

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn’t aware there was a new OS available. I just ordered 4 of them, didn’t write a review, paid cash. I’m really happy with their products and they don’t have to pay me to say so.

"Long-Term Equipment Loans: A Win-Win for Everyone" by Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound

Thank you, that is the approach to reviewing that I would hope for. My post however, was in response to Another Johnson who suggested that magazines didn’t publish negative reviews for fear of damaging the company’s reputation. I don’t think that would be right and apparently is not something...

"Long-Term Equipment Loans: A Win-Win for Everyone" by Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound

I’d like to know about the bad ones as well as the good ones. If they know something isn’t good I’d prefer they didn’t keep that a secret out of a concern for the health of the company.

"Long-Term Equipment Loans: A Win-Win for Everyone" by Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound

The discussion in this thread is what length of time is appropriate for a long term loan. In this one example two days was all the time required to complete the audition and no loan at all was required. I’m not questioning how or where the review was done or the conclusion at the end of it. Just...

"Long-Term Equipment Loans: A Win-Win for Everyone" by Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound

In the review he says it was done that way because of the weight of the monoblocks although the pair only weigh about 100 lbs. more that a single Chronosonic XVX. In any event, my point was not whether the auditioning was done at a dealer or his home, two days was all that was needed.

"Long-Term Equipment Loans: A Win-Win for Everyone" by Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound

For his December 2022 review of the Burmeister 159 monoblocks Mr Harley spent TWO days at a dealer auditioning them and from that experience was able to declare them the 2022 Solid State Amplifiers Of The Year. He gave some reasons why he did the review that way but I think what stands out for...

    Wilson Audio drivers

At one point they did use metal tweeters. My Sophia II’s had inverted dome tweeters that I think were titanium. The original Sasha WP also had an inverted dome metal tweeter but my Sasha ll‘s have a soft dome tweeter. Maybe they just use the materials that currently sound best.

    dCS Bartok & MQA

Hi Lee - I know you're a fan but I have zero interest in MQA. Nor in relitigating the years of acrimony over the subject of MQA. Just wanted to know if everything went through the MQA circuitry in the Bartok or not. I have that answer and have been pointed in the direction of more information so...
