I thought it was readily apparent. Guess not. Go back and re-read the post that Amir was responding to when I quoted Amir's response. If you still have questions, please let me know.
Steve-These are all words I didn't think I would ever see from you, but they are the truth. Amir started this thread with what appeared to be good intentions at first. What I thought was supposed to be a learning experience for Amir with possibly a dose of contrition turned out to be more of...
Let's set the record straight Amir, you made it personal. I could care less whether someone criticizes a review I write because I might actually learn something from constructive criticism. I expect to be criticized and said that the first time I posted a link to a review I wrote on WBF...
Amir-picking a coin toss correctly is a 50/50 proposition. If you can correctly guess a coin toss 5 out of 5 times, you need to go to Vegas ASAP and play roulette. Just quit after your first 5 correct choices since it can't be repeated.
I don't care if there were a 1,000 people in the room. MF got 5/5 right and JA got 4/5 right. If it was revealing enough for them, why not AES members?
That I don't have enough information about how the test was conducted and what speakers were chosen and why this test was graded so...
Caelin-I agree with what you are saying because it's the truth as I know it. The flip side of that is people who claim to have extreme technical competence and want to say ad nauseam that everything we hear can be measured and therefore we know everything which is complete nonsense.
Interesting poll for you of all people to start. How could you possibly know the answer to your poll question? You have no turntable, arm, or cartridge in your system right?
I would argue that if his walls were built by some boy scouts instead of carpenters and they were trying to save money from their light bulb sale and put the 2 x 4 studs 24" on center, he's better off tearing it down and starting over.
The point that you either missed or glossed over is that AES members couldn't tell the difference between a SS amp and tube amp under DBTconditions. Does that not say something? Does anybody really think a Crown DC amp and a VTL sounded identical?? Really?
So you don't want to include...
From http://www.analogplanet.com/content/im-appalled-way-you-treat-your-readership:
AES members couldn't tell a Crown DC amp from a VTL amp and yet Mikey picked 5 out of 5 amps correctly and JA got 4/5 correct. Did that satisfy anyone? Apparently not. The beatings continue.
They are already there and think you are delusional because you think you do hear a difference-trust me. We have so many amplifiers of different classes available. Class A (which in Pure Class A form are really much more rare than all other classes), Class A/B (which has been the dominant...
I'm curious, which "identical" items were reviewed in TAS and found to sound different by the reviewers? With regards to DSD 128 and DSD 256, I have yet to hear a comparison so I can't offer my opinion. I believe that Bruce B. said he didn't hear much difference after you get past DSD 128, but...
And so it is for the majority of people and even those who are full of puffery and claim to love that which they don't have (measurements) nor participated in (DBTs).
John-Make sure you take plenty of measurements and generate lots of graphs and charts from the measurements with your old turntable stand first and then repeat after you buy the new stand and we can all jump in and tell you which one sounds the best even though we have never been to your house...
Sounds like he needs to tear off the sheetrock and stud the wall correctly. From what he said, the wall was never studded correctly. 2 x 4 studs need to be 16" on center and if you really want to make the wall stiffer, you could space them more closely together. Of course, a complete set of...
Don-You have it backwards. If you are not a techie on this site, your thoughts don't matter. You at least have to pretend you love graphs, charts, measurements, DBTs, and Harman. We have non-techies on this site that continuously proclaim their love (as in over, and over, and over again) for...
At this point based on what is going on in another thread that I started, I'm not going to say anything because I don't want this thread to come off the rails. The pitchfork mob is worked up to a frenzy and I'm sure there are some that are looking to get in some fresh jabs and I don't want this...
Rob-you are being like Amir and forgetting that he wasn't just talking about testing speakers, he was talking about testing electronics too. And regardless of what Amir says, JA is not using $60 worth of test gear to measure speakers. It's more like $7500 or so.
Amir-you keep going back to a $60 setup to measure speakers and seem to have forgotten that yesterday you said all reviewers need to measure everything they review which entails a hell of a lot more money in test gear than $60. You even mentioned that your test gear is worth $60k-$80k.
Now...
We have something in common as your opinions mean nothing to me either. No set of measurements are going to tell you how a given component will sound in a system. I agree that measurements can tell you if a given amp will be electrically compatible with a given pair of speakers, but the...
If you want a full set of professional measurements, then you you need people who are trained professional technicians or engineers who have professional test equipment. And now you also want the reviewers to have access to the measurements prior to writing their reviews and you don't think...
Do you want a full set of professional measurements? And even if Amir's dream came true, do you want reviewers to write their reviews around a set of measurements or do you expect the reviewer to tell you how they think it sounds?
