Hi guys, i would like to have feedbacks from people who have compared Telefunken ECC82 smooth long plates, Telefunken ECC802S, Siemens ECC82 Silver Plates and Amperex 7316.
Right now the only one i own is the Telefunken ECC82 Smooth Plates which i find very well balanced, smooth and very musical but not as transparent as my RCA Clear Top.
By the way i find RCA Clear Top not musical at all and pretty bright.
It is paired with 2 RCA 12AU7 Black long Plates as phase inverters and 2 RCA 12AX7 Black long Plates as drivers of KT120s in a Jadis DA88S integrated.
Will i gain anything by trying Teles 802S, Siemens Silver Plates or the famous Amperex 7316.
Please share your experience thanks.

With 802s you get wider, deeper soundstage and a bit more dynamic. In the important mid-tone range, e.g. voices, I would describe it as the 802s producing a more pure tone than the smooth plate. For some singers it sounds as if they could have had a few more hours of singing lessons to get the notes right. But in the end I prefer the smooth plate because it connects you better with the music. My opinion.20231212_215154.jpg

Interesting so the Smooth Plate is basically more engaging, you are more drawn into the music.
Any experience with E80CC in place of 12AU7 if your amp can take it ?
Many Thanks.

Yes i love them more then ecc802s,
I also like listening to it but after a few days I switch back to the smooth plate for me the best choice. But personal taste plays a big role. Old Siemens&Halske tubes produce a similar sound and a bit brighter.
Be careful
The E80CC is equivalent to an American 6085. This isn't, however, a 12AU7 /
ECC82. We're talking about a small double-triode, but one with very
different properties (i.e. mu of 37( gain) instead of 17, using 6mA plate current
on average instead of 11ma). In conventional R-C stages, it may be possible
to directly substitute the two without anything going drastically wrong, but
you'll probably end up with more gain than you need and a good bit of extra
distortion. An E80CC won't be able to give the same 'kick' as an ECC82 when
used as a driver in poweramps - it'll be putting out less power and with a higher anode
impedance.
a better replacement is the 12bh7a (gain 16) lower impendance more current. as driver really good or in outputstage of your preamp. the sound characteristics are more like a rocker than a telefunken fine sound. some times its really sound good in devices when you need more fullbody sound.
Attention: it requires twice the heating current of an ECC82. Make sure that the circuit can deliver it. With one tube this is not a problem, but with several in the device it can lead to destruction.

I will ask Jadis if it’s possible to try one single E80CC otherwise I won’t bother.
Regarding the Siemens I will definitely try that one thanks.

What do you guys think of Amperex 7316 compared to Telefunken Smooth Plates ?
