Some people have space consideration. I have two A810's simply because I like the way they are built. And I already have the A80.
It is not that easy to go out and find a nice clean A80RC for a reasonable price.
On top of that, the A80 is not exactly the top of the heap in terms of its sound quality - hence the "Stellavox and Friends" project. In which case getting your A810 sound better than A80RC for some reasonable coin is a wonderful deal... seems to me.

hard in Europe too, but I guess easier than in the US

First of all you should put your industry affiliation in your signature , like they all do here
You are either working / owner /designing electronics for BAT , so you obviously have a commercial interest as to why an upgraded or a standalone tape pre would sound better then a studer card .
Secondly i spend way to much money on recent audiophile labels/ tapes which were recorded with " modified " audiophile recording / playback equipment to even consider an outboard pre my self .
If i would have heard a significant upgrade in sound from those tapes i would consider it , but the result was far from that .
I have a tubed bufferstage thats all , designed by eternal arts in germany

In the meantime I discovered an area in my head preamps that could use some improvement.
Not something that I can hear, but definitely stuff I can see on spectrum analyzer. So I will have to rework the four I already have in service, and possibly the two I have in different stages of completion.

I tried a tubed buffer stage on my A80 as well, but it just got another flavor, so I think it needs to be done directly from heads, but htey need to have the correct inductance for the longer wiring....

Through those speakers of yours I doubt you will hear any difference if you had one. As far as I am concerned you lack total experience, here on this thread you are the only one trying to argue strongly with conviction trying to teach circuits to the CEO of BAT, arguing with Leif who has a system 100x yours (I have heard both), keep it up. The problem is your awful speakers, your lack of exposure, and your lack of humility
I did not know there was a requirement for sig. I am not hiding my affiliation, but I also don't feel like using it in an argument. As I stated many times, my work with tape decks is strictly a hobby, no affiliated in any way with my company.
Just for clarity, there is absolutely no commercial interest, as we are not producing head preamps, and, as I also openly stated many times, we have no such plans. If that changes in some future, then I will definitely follow up with proper steps.
I actually bought those " special" tapes .
And the only thing some of them are good for is erasing the tape and use them for dubbing

Well, I asked you a direct question, on whether you have done such direct comparisons.
Your response was evasive at best. So I presume you don't have any experience with head preamps, but for some (personal?) reason you dislike them.
I have done such direct comparison on at least 4 or 5 machines.
