as your system improves do you hear more and more flaws in recordings?

Tim/Raul-Do either one of you not here the distortion that takes place throughout portions of KOB?

Dear Mep: I think that you know as many of us that there is no " perfect " recordings, could be a " perfect " track on a LP but a " perfect " Lp?: I'm unaware of it. The whole analog source IMHO is surrounded by " heavy imperfections ", I wonder why with all those imperfections/distortions we still like it so much other that we already own thousands of LPs.

IMHO the analog source ( LPs. ) is a deep learning " exercise " on how not attemp to record music for reproduce at home!, it is that bad ( the LP medium. ) IMHO and no I don't have the right answer/solution other than what we have through digital technology.

Regards and enjoy the music,
Raul.

Sonny Rollins has recorded since the 1940's. WOW is just one of many. I enjoy a good food fight as well as the next guy. Over the years I have purchased my share of "duds" recommended by the experts.
My point is if you like it play til it's threadbare. If you don't put it with he rest of the mediocre recordings in your collection. There's millions of recordings out there. I'm sure you can find one you like.

This thread has come hopelessly off-topic. The whole point of this thread was to discuss whether or not you think that as your system has gotten better, do your recordings sound worse (or you hear more flaws which makes them sound worse). The only reason I floated WOW was to use it as an example of a recording that I doubted anyone back in 1957-1958 had any idea how good it sounded on the gear they had to play it back on and therefore continues to sound better as your system gets better. Somehow this has morphed into a food fight over how good or bad a recording WOW really is instead of the whole point I was trying to make when the thread started.

So, to try and get this thread back on topic, I will say once again that I am a firm believer that the better your systems gets over time (assuming you have made forward progress in your system's evolution), the better your software will sound because you will retrieve more information. Even if you hear some flaws that maybe you didn't notice before, overall, things should sound better not worse as your system improves.

Dear Mep: It is funny that you just " run " when you was the person that at the very begin of this thread start this WOW dialogue when you put that challenge that we can read here:

+++++ " Please name me one jazz recording that has been made in the last 15-20 years using all the *finest* digital technology and non-tube microphones that can rival just the two LPs I named in terms of sound quality. And frankly, I don't don't know of any genre of music besides classical where so much care was always taken to capture as accurately as possible the sound of the instruments and the room like jazz. " +++++

and in other posts you followed on the subject:

+++++ " There are certainly many examples of crappy recordings made during the golden era. I just don't know if anything being made today clearly beats the best from yesteryear. " +++++

+++++ " So therefore, the recordings have to sound like the gear that was used to make them. Nobody jumped in a time travel machine and gave them a digital recorder to use. And who ever said that I have recorded anyone using anything?? Not me. So therefore I have no experience recording jazz trios or people singing in the shower for that matter and nor did I claim to. And yes, I know who Tom Jung from DMP fame is. For some reason, I don't own anything he has done. You can speculate. " +++++

+++++ " Frantz-I am still waiting for someone to give me the name of a jazz album recorded with all of the latest digital doo-dads that is sonically superior to what was laid down in 1957 with Way Out West. " +++++

there are other posts by you, the ones here comes from the first three pages of this nine pages thread! Btw, you posted " everything " but the more important subject: your experiences in the comparison between WOW and any of the LPs we named here and that we think are way better that your beloved WOW. Remember? that was your challenge!

Have a good time.

Regards and enjoy the music,
Raul.

I moved my thoughts to another thread to try and restore order to this one. I have nothing to run or hide from. This has been a disserivce to MikeL and for that I apologize.
