AXPONA 2025

I'm about three hours into the editing work on the Alon Wolf interview. He was really very nice during the interview!

I thought a "sleeper" room was the ampsandsound room. Anyone else hear it?
Thank you. I worked that room with Justin. So yeah, I heard it quite a bit.

I heard it too (one of the few rooms I got to spend some time in!) I agree with others, it was ampsandsound at its finest.

The Devore room (mini Monkeyhaus) had some great synergy going on with the Leben as well.

But then, Steven Norber from PranaFidelity is known for consistently having good setups at shows.
I 100% agree with this. Steven was exhibiting at AXPONA 2024 with his stand mounted speakers and a Kuzma Stabi R Wood table and the sound was excellent no matter the genre being played and he always welcomed people to play the music they happened to bring along.

Steven is a stand up kind of guy and truly knows how to set up a system and I for one, loved those stand mounted speakers. They have a huge sound that belies their size!

I didn't see him at the AXPONA 2025 last weekend, so I'm not sure if he was exhibiting or not.

Best wishes,
Don

In a way, he was. Steven was a design consultant (designer?) for the Von Schweikert VR30. IMO it showed very well at AXPONA, so in a way Steven was well represented.

Were Kharma speakers showing? They had a full page ad in the latest issue of Stereophile advertising their presence&premiere, yet not one of any usual reporting sites or bloggers has mentioned them......
I do not believe they were at the show. However, my understanding is that a Kharma dealer had a fancy event in his showroom

The room at Axpona did not look very large, and those Dagostino Relentless amplifiers have a lot of power, perhaps 1000 W into eight ohms. I don’t know the exact model number. In the video, you can see the needle bouncing around indicating I think that a lot of power was being used, and Ron said the volume was at normal listening levels. It just seems curious.

That room had a very smooth hi-fi sound. Walked in there with a few friends who are more mid-fi music lovers / not audiophiles, and they were shocked that relatively "cheapo" horn systems at the show sounded more ALIVE.

I think Magico is playing to please the audiophile market with that type of sound.

A real embarassment, IMO, and failure to convert people to the hobby.

Also, the magico room had a Magico reviewer playing the tracks. I think his name was Fritz. It's about time that guy came out for what he really is.

Will Fremer join wilson once Peter McGrath retires?

What conspiracy theory nonsense is this? Jeff Fritz' LinkedIn lists his title explicitly as "Brand Ambassador for Magico."

not sure what conspiracy theory you are talking about. he's a former reviewer for ultra audio who constantly praised magico as the BEST speaker. I am surprised you are not aware of his previous employment history.

i am happy he finally found a home with magico

"It's about time that guy came out for what he really is" means you believe some subterfuge or non-disclosure is going on. That is not the case.

I remember Jeff liking Rockports very much as well. I don't remember him praising Magico as "the best" speaker. You might be right. Please cite for us where Jeff declares Magico "the best" speaker.

I am well aware of it.

I am too. If Jeff thinks Magico is the best speaker he's ever heard it certainly makes sense to me that he would want to go to work for Alon.

I am too tired to do a google search, feel free to do one. You will find plenty of examples of him extolling magico.

Furthermore, there was also a thread on wbf - greatest speaker ever, from about 13-15 years ago, where he picked magico as the best... they also recorded a video with magico and fritz for that promotion. wolf and fritz are both bald in the video, having a fancy dinner, and I cannot tell which dude is which. I found it quite nauseating that a reviewer would do something like that.

What I learned from Fritz is that many reviewers are just masquerading as "journalists", but are fans of their favorite gear, just like everyone else on this site, but are using their authority to influence others.

Fritz should have had more integrity and should have joined magico 10-15 years ago

will also look for nauseating video

14 years later and I still find that thread very entertaining in a good way....

I wonder if he kept his personal(?) Vivid's (G1-spirits) https://www.soundstageultra.com/ind...iya-g1-spirit?catid=135:jeff-fritz&Itemid=564
Works for Magico, but knows the truth that the Vivid's are way more enjoyable than any Magico out there :p :-D

Yes, there was a room with a smaller pair of Kharmas. I can't recall the model, nor the electronics. The room sounded quite good.

Thank you Ron. Here are the facts. I resigned publicly from my position with SoundStage! effective May 1, 2023. On that date I ceased to be a reviewer. Here is the announcement on the SoundStage! Ultra site:

On my LinkedIn (easily accessible) I posted the following, on May 1, 2024 (my anniversary date with Magico).

On May 1, 2023, I joined Magico, LLC, as Brand Ambassador. What a year it has been.

The company welcomed me in with open arms. Alon Wolf, Peter Mackay, Dave Shackleton, Yair Tammam, and the entire staff gave me a home at the fantastic organization they built. I've had nothing but good days with Magico, supporting and promoting people and products I genuinely believe in. I have even more admiration for Magico speakers today than I did a year ago. Kind of like an employee at a restaurant that loves to eat the food after seeing what goes on in the kitchen.

Complacent, I am not. I've simply got past the initial learning curve of a new job. I now have tools and a skillset I lacked a year ago, and that is going to make Year Two more rewarding and successful than my rookie season.

I can't wait to see what is in store. Ready to rock'n'roll at Magico.

I left one job for another. It was all disclosed openly. I hope this clears up any confusion.

Thanks,
Jeff
