Burmester as a replacement to Audio Research

@Woots I had a question as a follow up to discussion on Burmester equipment. I recently purchased several Burmester equipment all brand new. Amongst them is the 088 preamp and the 956 mk II amp. Absolutely, love the combo. I do have a question. Do you use the 088 with high or low amplification? I find that I get more clarity and details when I engage the 088 in high amplification mode. However, I hear a mild hiss when I engage that. Have you observed this. My speakers are Magico A5 and SF Serafinos. I hear the hiss on both pairs. Please let me know.. Thanks..
I run my 088 on low amplification/gain mode. And as far as I know Burmester also recommends this with their amplifiers. It also allows one to make full range of the volume control.

Thank you @sujay appreciate your response. It just seems more lively and more pronounced when I have it on the high amplification/gain mode especially with the classical genre but the mild hiss is a turn off especially with quiet passages. I have stepped back to the low amplification/gain mode. I observed this with the loaner preamp 088 from my dealer while I waited for my unit as well. So was curious. Please let me know, if you were to try it and you observe the same.

Amplifier for wilson speakers

I prefer medium to high power low feedback class A amplifier for wilson speakers:

Solidstate (Vitus, Riviera, Lamm, Robert Koda) or Tube (VTL, Lamm, Kondo, Engstrom, Audio Note).

It is not a rule but I think wilson likes tubes more
