I started seeing $10 account maintenance fees on one of my "free" checking accounts. Seems TD Bank initiated a new minimum account balance with "no notice" on June 1 of this year. Sometimes the account has 0000s other times 00s, so I didn't pick up on it right away.

Check your statements.

Thankfully I belong to a Credit Union and they don't pull that nonsense.

Zero balance accounts. if you need to maintain a zero balance account you should talk to your banker and negotiate a no fee arrangement. Many just deposit payments there and quickly move them to other interest bearing accounts.

I strongly recommend online banking and that you check your account for unauthorized fees. charges and outright theft. Banks make mistakes and the sooner you discover a problem the more ou will remember your activity.
