I'm still looking for proper Lampizator DAC and saw an offer for Golden Gate R2R version. Can anyone tell what is the difference in sound between r2r and delta-sigma version?

Will I regret choosing r2r or vice versa?

Another question - I use usually a Mac to upsample music from streaming services to DSD, does it make sense with r2r version? Thanks for any comments :)

I'm sorry your post was ignored.

My understanding (but someone can fact check me) is that Lampizator initially only sold their DHT DACs with a Soekris DAM OEM board. Presumably because in those days they were still in their relative infancy and building an OTS solution made commercial sense.

Like my own DHT dac from Acuhorn, you can add a power supply of your choice and create whatever novel DHT output circuit you want.

My guess is that when Soekris stopped making their OEM line some years ago that "coincided" with their move to DS DAC chips. Their engine chips are from one of two sources with the branding rubbed off.

Having heard a Pacific 2 I will say that it doesn't exhibit any DS glare so fair play to them for implementing that tech successfully.

The r2r version will likely convert DSD input to pcm internally assuming it even accepts it . Some of them had separate r2r and DSD sections though -you would need to check with the seller.
The DS version may or may not treat DSD as native depending on the chip/implementation, but would be preferred for DSD input over a pure r2r unit.

No, the R2R versions do NOT convert DSD to PCM. They include a seperate DSD board to handle DSD. Only the PCM input signal is processed through the R2R board. Check the rear panel to see what DSD rate it handles.
As far as I can remember the R2R board was later ditched by Lampi in the name of progress because they found their "magic" OEM DS chip superior.

I am fairly sure there were R2R -only units made.

There were also DSD-only units - I’m certain about that.

This depended on if they were customized by the buyer at the time of order (or even after in some cases), that’s why I recommended OP to ask the seller to be sure- as OP obviously wants DSD capability.

Checking the rear panel or product card is a good suggestion.
