Dyson Vacuum Cleaners

If you want to put a big fat smile o your wife or girlfriend's face, give her a Dyson......hair dryer. Women are going nuts over them.
I bought one for Cathy last Christmas. She loves it

I hate to be a curmudgeon but our experience with Dyson vacuums has been anything but stellar. I couldn't wait to get rid of ours

We continue to use and love our Miele but the huge change for us was when I went robotic. Presently I am Using a Neato D5 Bot connected and our house has never been so clean. The dirt and lint and things on the floor that this robot picks up is truly remarkable. It follows a map of the house that it produced in its first few clean cycles and when finishes it docks and sends to my iPhone a map of where it has cleaned in the house. Just like Dyson, Neato sells replacement parts for all of it's vacuums.

It takes 2 1/2 hours for it to clean the first floor of our house and it is cleaner than any time our cleaning ladies vacuum. I used to run it every day but now only 3X per week as it cleans so wellas you program the device for when to run and on what days. You can also set up a perimeter to keep the Neat out of any rooms or away from anything you don't want it near. It is a marvel to watch it wind in and out and between our kitchen chairs and table as well as the dining room chairs and table

I promise that once you go robotic you will never use another hand held vacuum or canister again. Ours is programmed to come on when we are not at home. All I do is clean the filter and trap and it is ready to go again. Replacement parts are quite inexpensive

Ive seen as well that the latest version of Roomba will not only map your house but when it docks it also cleans itself. How great is that

Neato has a Black Friday special. Buy a D7 at $100 off MSRP and get a D3 for free. That’s quite a savings. I’m tempted

I can honestly say that once you’ve used a Bot to vacuum you won’t be satisfied with anything else.

If you have pets - I would not recommend unattended robot cleaning. Too many horror stories of robots spreading dog poo and cat erp all across the house. I had a Roomba. I kept putting kittens on it, hoping that one would ride it like those videos online. :D I did not replace it when it finally died.

I beg to differ but only if your pet is house trained. We get to look after our son’s dog a lot and he sheds but would never have an accident in the house. Out Neato picks up so much hair that we never knew was there.

I’d go do far in saying that a robot is essential if you have a house trained pet.

I hope you are right as I bought one for my wife for one of her Christmas gifts. She did mention the Dyson hair dryer on a fishing expedition I presume :) so I took the bait and ordered one for her. Never knew until then that they made a hair dryer.

We were in San Francisco last week and there is a huge dedicated Dyson store in the Westfield Shopping Center on Market. It's like going into an Apple store

I think that I'm too wary of the accidents to allow for unattended robot vacuuming. You never know when the cat might throw a hairball or the dog eats something that disagrees. And that's what I mean by "accident" when it's truly uncontrollable.

I totally understand. Our son’s dog is totally housebroken but sheds. For us the Neato is indispensable

PS
Dyson is currently in a legal battle with the European Court. Apparently the EU tests for vacuum cleaners' performance is based on an empty cleaner which he claims gives the German manufacturers an unfair advantage and is not a credible test of performance
I love our Dyson. We have 2 big dogs and it gets the job done. I just ordered a Dyson hair dryer from a points catalog and am interested to see if they can blow as well as they suck.

I just purchased a used Dyson to refurbish. I will keep you posted.

My Dyson was cleaned for $20.00 and that was the minimum service fee. I purchased it for $25 from the thrift store. It is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned.Dyson DC 14. Certainly current technology has advanced beyond it. It might also be a little heavy for female users. It is ideal for me.

I am English so should support Dyson.

I have owned three Dysons over the years. Two vacuums and a handheld.

They all have one thing in common. They ALL break. They have all needed continued servicing as they keep on breaking.

They are also extremely heavy for what they are.

Currently using a Roborock S5 Max robo vac and an Oreck lightweight magnesium frame upright. The Oreck is vastly superior to the Dysons I think. Much lighter. It uses bags but that is a better option as they take months to fill and can be disposed of without filling your lungs with crap.

Just my opinion.

When my Hoover stopped working as well I finally went looking at the Dyson stick vac as I also went from carpeting to rugs and hard wood flooring (or laminate anyway) - friends who have it swear by it. The older V8 was on sale with ALL attachments on the Dyson USA site, so I went for it. I am happy to report that I absolutely love it for my tiny space (600SF). I've had a Kirby when I had a 3 story Cape Cod - hardwood main, carpeted basement and upper (and 2 cats), a Roomba that lasted many years but did not get so much use when I moved into my current apartment, the usual Electrolux, Shark, Hoovers that were the $80 Walmart specials and never lasted longer than 5 years.

I like that it is lightweight, battery operated, has 2 suction strengths, transforms into a hand vac. That suction power is super. It actually sucks up all the embedded cat fur from the cat perches that are covered with carpet. The Hoover with "pet" tool never did that.

Dear Carol,

I am very glad you are happy with your new Dyson vacuum! The Dyson products seem to totally outclass and outperform their competitors.

I recently got a Dyson V7 model. (I actually find the model nomenclature and the differences among the different models to be fairly confusing.)

It's a great product, but it is a perfect example of "you get what you pay for." They're more expensive than everything else, but they seem to be better than everything else.

Also I like the fact that the concept for them is not that if something breaks you just throw it away -- that it is not disposable. You can order the modular sub-assemblies and replace one if necessary, so I think you can make a Dyson vacuum last a very long time.

PS: Justin, that is a very interesting report! Maybe I've just been lucky with the Dyson products?

I totally agree. I've owned three Dyson vacs and won't ever buy another one. We use Miele now

The only Dyson we have now is the hair dryer which performs well

Carol,

We have an older V6 and a V8. The V6 is great for light work, V8 for bigger jobs.

Haven't used our regular plug in vacuums (Dyson also) since we got the V8 as it works so well. Great not having to look for an electrical outlet and deal with a long cord.

You made a good choiced in my opinion.

Edit - my wife and I both have a Dyson hair dryer and really like them, too. Best I've ever had.

Apparently people have strong opinions (one way or another) about Dyson! ;)

We truly have had only bad luck when we owned ours. As stated they all break

I still use the Miele when our cleaning lady is here but for every day I maintain that if you want the best cleaning buy yourself a robot. We started with a Roomba, then an entry level Neato and now we have the top of the line Neato, one upstairs and one downstairs. You can create a floor plan that you want cleaned and the robot will remove more dirt than you ever thought you had. I can turn them on from anywhere in the world and even watch their progress. Also the robot is uncanny because as it approaches the upstairs stairs, it will never go over the edge.

If you have a pet, a robot IMO is absolutely essential as it removes every bit of fur and dirt. If your floor is too large to finish on one charge the Neatoreturns to its home base to recharge and once doe it knows where it left off and resumes cleaning. When done it gives me a floor map of what it cleaned
