EAT Tubes vs. NOS Tubes

With all due respect, do you have an axe to grind with EAT?

Seems as if you always find / look for something to criticize.

If you don't like the company for whatever reason, don't buy anything from them.

Pretty simple.

I have no axe to grind. I simply wanted to know (and still want to know) if EAT is actually manufacturing a 6922 variant. I have never bought a tube from them and have no experience with how good they sound. The above statement I made that you quoted was simply an observation-nothing more and nothing less.

From the horses mouth.

I have a quick question that's come up. Are the EAT ECC88/6922 tubes that you folks sell a brand new tube or a NOS tube to which you add a tube damper?

Thanks,

Dear Astor,

Thank you for your e-mail. Yes, they are brand new.

My best regards. Jozefina

Now, that's interesting, because I got this answer recently (Oct. 19):

"They are NOS very special selection, nobody does."

Jozefina Lichtenegger, CEO

And I friend of mine got this answer (in her native language) a few months ago:

"6922 momentalne nie su lebo neviem zohnat dobry zdroj. Tieto elektronky nevyrabame mi. Su to po vecine NOS a nami specialne vyselektovane.
300B a KT88 vyrabame priamo v nasej fabrike v Prahe.

I can only relay her response. Does it make any sense though that they would have an old stash of tubes and be able to supply them in large quantities? What miraculous tube mine did they find? I'll talk to Roy Hall and see if I can put this question to bed for once and all!

If she told you they were NOS and she told Myles they were "new," technically both answers are correct. As for laying in a large stash of them, it's not impossible if you have deep pockets and the right connections. Read the link I posted to Kevin Deal's story about the latest stash of Telefunken tubes he bought.

No reread my question. I asked if brand new or NOS. She replied brand new.

Maybe the meaning was lost in translation? I assume English is not her first language.

When I started this thread, I was going to go with EAT for mu CJ T1 phono stage. I did purchase some NOS Amperex, they did not work since the US crushed the box. I ended up purchasing the Genalex-Gold Lions. These tubes are now nosier then my neighbors dogs. I have on order the 6H23EB. I was advised to stay away from the EAT because they would not last in my phono stage.

I assume you mean the Russian reissues.

I wonder why someone told you to stay away from the EAT tubes? Had they already tried them in your CJ and they didn't last long either?

I've used the ECC803S in both my cj TEA (not in the two sensitive spots where only the cj selected tubes seem to work) and Doshi phono stages without any issues so far. I don't have any experience with the ECC88 tubes though.

It uses two 6922 tubes and one 12AX7?

I noticed there are several variations and thus my question as to which tubes yours used. I assume you have tried the selected 6922 tubes from CJ and you are yearning for just a little more of something. If you don't want to try the EAT tubes, why not give Kevin Deal a call and ask him what he recommends for your CJ?

MEP;
My CJ TEA 1 has the xfmrs and it does use two 6922 tubes and one 12AX7.

Because you're using the step up; ergo you need less gain. I'm not using the transformer.

In my rig, the EAT (installed in the CJ ET5 pre) outperformed the factory supplied tube in every imaginable category.

And it was far from subtle. Call it transformational.

The great thing about running small signal tubes at line level is that you can get away with tubes that are more noisy than what would be acceptable at a high-gain phono position in a phono preamp. I'm glad that EAT tubes worked out so well for you in your ET5 and they are bringing you what the stock CJ tubes were lacking in your system.

mep,

Don't know about tube phono pre's but the EAT is "dead" quiet in my ET5 (like my SS CJ 18LS pre) with ears right up against the treble - midrange pods on my MBL 116's, unlike the factory tube supplied, which had an audible hiss within two feet of the pods.

GG-I'm happy for you bro. Noisy tubes drive me nuts and nothing is better than when your noise floor drops when you insert a low-noise tube to replace the noisy tube.
