Emm labs DA2 v2 upgrade

Guys. I have the following system >
- Streamer > Aurender N10
- Dac > Emm Labs DAC2X V2
- Pre > Pass Labs XP10
- Amp > Pass Labs X250.5

If you would be upgrading, would you replace the DAC2X V2 with the DA2 V2 or both the DAC2X V2 and Pass XP-10 with the DV2 ?

Hi, if there's great synergy between DV2 and your Pass Labs X250.5, I think that will be the best option. Why not borrow one to test it in your sound system?

Wow, a new reference recording by Chandos to show off the new and stunning EMM Labs firmware update! Yes, the recording is so scarily lifelike and three dimensional with an immense, deep and wide resonant soundstage. Listen also to the threatening timpani strokes that sounded so real and frighteningly powerful in the opening of the Suite. The Singapore Symphony is in excellent form and the vocalists always crystal clear and the orchestra vivid, dynamic and enchanting. BBC Music rightly says: "This snapshot, stunningly recorded, serves as a tantalising sample of what it might be to go on Herrmann’s entire emotionally wrought journey."

Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé Sinfonia of London, John Wilson CHANDOS CHSA 5327 SACD


Hi guys,

My journey with my XMOS processor firmware update continues. For the last two days, my sound system all of a sudden sounded broken. The strings especially sounded so grainy and harsh. I was listening to the above album: Daphnis et Chloé by the Sinfonia of London. However, this afternoon, this new album sounded excellent. You may wonder why? Well, I attribute the phenomena to my Ansuz Acoustic D-TC resonance control footers under my DV2 . It takes up to a month for the footers to stabilized!

Now, back to the sound. Wow, as Gramophone rightly says, this is the finest recorded Daphnis et Chloé for a good long while! The delicacy of the sound, the clear textural detail, the lushness, the virtuosity of the playing, the refined and atmospheric performance, the amazing woodwinds and brass, the awesome powerful fortissimos, the lifelike instrumental timbre, the immense soundstage, were highly apparent as never before via the new XMOS processor update.

Just to share a perspective - I have just got home from attending a classical concert at the world class Esplanade Concert Hall. Based on what I just heard from my seat, my objective observation is that my current sound system (especially after the latest firmware update) sounded as good (or very, very close) as what I have just heard. Dynamics are as good (or nearly) as the real thing!

In view of the fact that my XMOS processor update allows me to hear the speed, attack, decay, sustain and release of a note, I decided to test the sound performance of the album Jazz at the Pawnshop Vol. 2 and I am not in the least disappointed. All the instruments come alive so to speak!

Berlioz Requiem Robert Spano Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Chorus TELARC SACD 60627 A Relisten

I was curious how this massive work will sound like via my updated XMOS processor and the result is revelatory! The first thing I noticed was the deep, cavernous acoustic of the recording as never before. Next, the bass line was deep, strong, full, clean, resonant and realistic as never before. There’s now cut and thrust to the rhythms. The micro details are now amazingly exceptional. The high notes are now crystal clear and soar like the real thing. A subtlety of inflection of voices are greatly noticeable. The Atlanta Chorus delicate, refined singing and articulation, their "presence" dramatically become apparent! Instrumental timbre is now perfect. Fortissimos are now reproduced effortlessly. Even the relatively soft tap on the drum towards the end of the work has weight, crystal clear, resonant and lifelike.

I can definitely recommend DV2 with Pass (any) power amplifier

Wow, a great test disc to assess the sound performance of the updated XMOS processor! You will not be disappointed. The sound/timbre now is so much more real, natural, engaging, transparent, pure, dynamic, detailed and three dimensional. The soundstage is huge. Percussion reproduction is so lifelike. Listen especially to Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Listen also to track 32, 37, and 39. Play loud.
 
Hi guys, I just wanted to share a significant point JV of The Absolute Sound made when reviewing the Soulution 760 DAC recently. He said:

"The Soulution 760 also comes equipped with Critical Mass System Center Stage2 constrained-layer-damped feet. Since these feet are not swappable for others, I’m not sure to what extent they are improving the sound. However, my previous experience with Critical Mass racks, stands, and footers leads me to believe that the CMS feet are having a significant effect, particularly in the smoothness and expressiveness of the treble and in the overall organicism of the sound." I agree with him totally based on my own experiences with these resonance control footers!

Congrats on achieving what most here are looking for! Is live sound only possible with SACD or are there other options like streaming for example?

Hi, I don't think I am in a position to answer that question because I don't do streaming. But I heard from a friend that it can be very close to live with a very good streamer like the Taiko Extreme and the rest of the sound system is optimised!

A very impressive and magnificent performance and recording of Bruckner's fourth symphony here! Listen especially to the full-throttle brass and shimmering strings sections. The wonderful acoustic of the Heinz Hall allows all the orchestral instruments to be heard with great clarity and definition. The dynamic range is amazing!

Wow, via my updated XMOS processor, this recording, by Keith O. Johnson, is awesome! The purity of sound, texture, and timbre are off-the-charts. Every instrument here sounded so real, especially the percussion. The bass drum is powerful, deep, full, naturally resonant and effortlessly captured and reproduced!

And because the piano was closely mike, each note's attack, decay, sustain, and release is reproduced naturally, transparently and completely via my sound system. The strings, woodwind and brass are especially crisp and articulate. Every nuance and detail from the orchestra and piano can be heard clearly. Power, delicacy, refinement and passion are all there in these two concertos. Listening volume: very loud.
