Hi to all the members,
It was with such great delight, that I got to know about this site.
As all of us have been on Agon, and I was severly disheartened when I kept following 'there is only one Oneobgyn's" threads and commentary which had come to a sudden stop. I don't wish to persevere or know why, but revel in the fact that the man has not lost his passion, is well and probably wants to get away from the political BS which has probably been a blessing by the emergence of this website!
Thank you Steve! Thank you to also the other founders and voluntary moderators for giving your time in building this website.
A little bit of back ground about myself.
I specialise in general management and at present work for the largest pharmaceutical global company.
I learnt to play the piano from a young age and persevered that to a moderate level of being able to play swing, jazz and other genre's. But most of all I learnt the hours of dedication and practice one would have to place to have a succesful musical career. My father was taught the violin by Zubin Mehta's dad, my uncle played in the London philharmonic and his daughter (my first cousin) is considered as one of the top best harpists in the world.
So the passion for music was born within me, and I always marvelled street to top concert level performers for the joy they can portray through a medium of voice and sounds that can eminate from instruments.
My set up is medium to high end as compared to industry standards. At present they encompass brands such as a Basis Signature Vac turntable, Emm Digital source, Allnic, Concert Fidelity and Lamm pre and power amplification feeding into a Avantgarde Omega Series Horns. All this with an assortment of tweaks such as SRA Ohio Shelves, Sound Application Conditioner, PSC Cables, Combak, Acoustic Revive, etc.
I have been through other manufacturers products such as ML ReQuests, Sonus faber Guarneri's, Jeff Rowland amplification, Theta Digital, Krell, Conrad Johnson, Music Fidelity, Ensemble speakers, EAD, Bill Beard, Cardas, Kimber, Illuminati, XLO and the list goes on; as I started my journey since '84.
I live in beautiful Sydney and spend a lot of time with my school going sons and partner. I also sometimes buy 3 copies of LP's (if they are great) which I don't know is right or not, with foresight that they may turn out to be audiophiles.
One of my life ambitions is to visit a few of the audiophiles homes based in the US and Europe to hear their set up, share music, learn about their experiences and most of all to offer the same reciprocal invite when they are in my part of the woods. This by far to me is the best way to learn and set benchmark levels of playback attainment.
So fellow 'What's Best" members, I look forward to reading and sharing the forum with your views.
Cheers,
Neville
