Hi howie,
i had the simplicity for a long time on both my TechDas TT, the AF3 and the AF3P, and a friend of mine have it also on his AF3 and now on his AF3P he bought from me,
we tried a variable cartridges with the Thales arm, (note that ked talking about the Thales set with their TT and arm, and you have only the arm on a deferent TT)
btw - i had the master innovation also in the past with 2 of their own arms, so i know your TT also. i replaced my Brinkman balance for it (i find the the CA more crystal clear, fast and resultative)
my friend and I had mounted the Thales the following carts along the years -
Ortofon anna, ZYX omega, Universe and others... DS AUDIO ds002 and the W2, murasakino sumile, EMT j series, My sonic lab Gold, sorts of koetsu, sorts of Miajima, and many more...
i ended up with my ANNA on my Thales till i replace all my analog rig a few months ago, especially for classical music.
the thales and Anna gave me the balance and accuracy to listen to my LPs at ease and with out coloration. inner groove are great and clear.
but i kept a second (and third most of the time) for more involving, drive and passion occasions.
my friend ended up with the MSL Gold, he said its the best cart he mounted on his Thales.
he also got the DS Audio w2 mounted on another arm for super tracking his classical lps.
i also think the Thales arm need a more involving passion cart to get it out of its skin a bit, the linear geometry and the swiss precise craftsmanship need to get some power in it to sing, so, i can suggest the MSL cart's or the murasakino sumile that i absolute LOVE! (it ended up to be on my ikeda 407 when i had it)
