Illegal file downloads

Looks like the complaint works as he has taken it down. I checked last night it was there and the cached copy still works but not the site itself.

Yeah, it looks like the whole site was pulled down. Guess the sharks got him!

Bruce,

I will use your topic to rise a question - do you know of any reference to a site covering the legal aspects related to copyrights in music servers?

Is it legal do archive the copies of LPs in digital format ? I recently noticed that HDtracks sells versions of the same recording with different sampling rates for different prices. Is it legal to get a 192 kHz version and make a CD version of it?

IANAL, but it seems to me that what you're asking would be covered by fair use provisions, provided the copies are for your own use.

Why would it be?? In the day you were allowed to make a copy on a cassete for your own use. I have most of my CD's on my Ipod and computer. What's the difference?? I don't know about you but I have multiple copies of works on LP, LP Halfspeed masters and CD. I should able to copy any one of them for my own use. Anything I copy still won't be the same as the master tape/hard drive.

Rob:)
