I've finally made up my mind about FLAC vs uncompressed...sigh. Hard drive makers rejoice.

There is no penalty for lossless in the digital domain.. it’s just another formula to store data, bits don’t wear out. Bit perfect is not just a buzzword.
I agree with the OP. however, it takes a system with a high degree of resolution to be able to discern the difference IME. Years back I couldn't hear a difference, with my latest system it's clearly audible.
It does need a high res system, yet it is clearly audible and you can even hear differences between storage media....don't ask how and why.
I keep my files as FLAC and load them into memory, effectively uncompressing them prior to playing.

At least most here seem to have come to agreement stepping further away from the native recording parameters and format raises the chances of harming SQ. My statement stands per incremental changes occurring in the digital domain.
Everything matters means looking at everything. Including poor digital hygienics and things with perfect in the name.
