Hi 2ndLiner, I was traveling last few days. I think the best answer that comes to my mind is that there is a moment where more resolution, bigger soundstage, and even more insight into all micro events on the stage get you into the place where musicality starts to become compromised and instruments don't sound as natural as one would expect.Hi JSA! I'm interested in hearing about the specifics regarding your preference for Pacific over the Horizon. I have a PAC2 and am quite happy as well. Tubes I use courtesy of Laszlo @takacs75 are Valvo G2504, EF802's, and 4p1l's. Delicious sound!
I reckon the reason the Western Electric VT-25 sounds as it does is the relatively heavy ceramic base and thick filament wire.
That means it resonates in a relatively calm manner.
That simple, really.
Saving you the trouble of a long review I reckon the pecking order is:
WE VT-25
Sylvania VT-25
Sylvania VT-52 and Hytron VT-62 even par with slight bias to the Sylvania aurally and maximum bias to the Hytron visually.
Best cost to price performance in my rig is definitely Sylvania VT-25.
I can confirm this. RCA 801a also have two options - black and silver plated one and the black plate is the top of the cropAllow my younger ears to correct you again Justin. WE VT25 is not the same as other VT25s/10y and is not as good. The best of those are RCA 801a and Cunningham 10y, and for general use, Sylvainia and GE
Ordered.I can confirm this. RCA 801a also have two options - black and silver plated one and the black plate is the top of the crop![]()
