Hello All,

I have been reading with great interest (especially the sections about modified and/or outboard electronics sectiions), and have been keeping my eye on the various classifieds for a "jem", so far kijiji/canuck audio mart/craigslist have only yeilded results in Montreal which is quite a treck from my current locale - Oshawa, Ontario Canada.

I intend to use the machine in a studio environment as a mixdown deck to get me some tone/warmth. And am hoping to be able to use it for tracking as well for low track count (acoustic/vocal) stuff.

I think I've narrowed my search down to a 4 trkAmpex 440 with both the quarter-track (1/2") headstack when tracking is required and the half-track (1/4") headstack for mixes. I suppose there might be other machines that have easily swappable headstacks, so I am open to suggestions.

I see that a few of you are local (Tony) and was hoping that perhaps you might point me in the right direction regarding machine sales.

Grateful to any of you for pointers you may have!

Matt

hi Matt!
Welcome to the forums.
There is a place in Markham (Woodbine/Steeles) called TeleTech that has a web site with a number of reels for sale. They may have something that meets your needs.
Good luck in your search!
Leslie

Matt, you may try to talk to Chris @ partsconnexion.com. He is in business for ages and knows a lot about who and were around GTA.
HTH,

Hey, thanks for the replies, guys!

Looks like I've found a nice condition 440 through a member here.

I'll let you know how things work out.

Definitely good to have those contacts handy for future use, though.

Matt
