I’ve had the pleasure of listening to the Magico M6 on several occasions, paired with different amplifications, and I can confidently say it’s in a league of its own.Incredible report, thanks very much for sharing your experience and test tracks! I'm really curious how you are comparing the M6 to the S5. They must be quite spectacular to be mentioned in that way...Although I've not heard the M6 it's always been on my radar but for sure out of my league price-wise. If the new S5's are even close then these are indeed a tremendous value in the Magico lineup.
The M6 is truly a no-compromise speaker. That said, I’m really impressed with the S5 2024. It represents a significant evolution in the S series and is designed to deliver a high-end experience at a more accessible price point compared to the flagship M series.
The S5 2024 excels its previous generations in musicality, tonal density, and scale, with notable improvements in bass quality and spatial reproduction. While it may not quite match the M6 in terms of detail retrieval, pinpoint imaging, or sheer scale, the S5 2024 has its own "wow factor." It impresses with its ability to produce lifelike sound without breaking the bank.
In terms of technology, the M6 features a superior monocoque enclosure that sets it apart. However, the new S series benefits from advanced enclosure measurements taken during development and upgraded driver technology.
So, if you have the budget and space for the M6, there’s really no competition—go for it! But for those of us looking for something more attainable, the S5 2024 is the closest option in the Magico lineup, possibly surpassing the M3 in value and some era performance, like lower octaves.
