After nearly a year of anticipation, my S5 2024s have finally arrived, replacing the exceptional S3 2023s.

The S3s were phenomenal in their own right, but the S5s are in a league of their own. The sheer effortlessness of their performance is astonishing. The lower octaves are so deep and authoritative that I had to double-check to make sure I hadn’t accidentally received a subwoofer alongside the speakers.

The highs remain as exquisite as they were with the S3s, yet something about the midrange integration feels even more refined—seamless in a way I can’t quite explain.

In short, this upgrade has exceeded every expectation I had. Simply extraordinary.

Wow, they have finally changed the crates to horizontal ones!

Luxman should be a good match to Magico.

My S3 2023 came in the same way, so they are doing it for some time now.

Luxman and Magico are working great together, the luxman have more then sufficient current and can go low in ohms to drive Magico loudspeakers.

Very happy to see your S5's arrived unscathed from their long journey. I can assure you they will continue to evolve and improve. Knowing you lived with the S3 2023 in the same system I am looking forward to learning thoughts in comparison.

With 550 hours of breakin and lots of listening time, one of the characteristics I consistently appreciate is the exceptional power response of the S5 in my room. I believe this element of their design is fundamental to the space and scale of the music I am enjoying so much.

Enjoy!

Congrats on the new speakers! How do you like your Luxman electronics/how do they pair with Magicos?
Thank you, Chris, for the congratulations.

Regarding the pairing of Luxman and Magico, they work exceptionally well together. Luxman amplifiers, such as the M900u or M10x, provide ample current and can handle loads as low as 1 ohm. Additionally, the natural and slightly velvety character of Luxman’s sound complements Magico speakers beautifully, resulting in an excellent match.

Thank you for the kind congratulations—I truly appreciate it!

You’re absolutely right in your observations about the power response. The S5 indeed outperforms the S3 2023 in this regard, thanks to its larger drivers and cabinet design, which allow the speakers to operate with less stress compared to their smaller sibling.

In my space, the results are remarkable—far beyond what the S3 2023 could achieve. Even my spouse commented that she’s never seen me so excited and smiling this much over any previous speakers!

Looking forward to sharing more impressions as the S5s continue to evolve.

Kudos, exupg12!! If they sound as good as they look in your nice space they will be a speaker to reckon with indeed! They look much more imposing than S3s in-room for sure. Please keep us posted on them and may you enjoy in excellent health!!!

Here are some impressions after a week of listening

The speakers are particularly impressive when listening to various music styles. During a late-night session with Keith Jarrett's The Köln Concert, the piano's harmonics floated in space with an almost holographic presence, every detail is rendered with astounding clarity. With works by Miles Davis So What, and Pink Floyd Time, the speakers create an impressive three-dimensional soundstage, precisely positioning each instrument and voice.

The bass especially is powerful — listening to Angel by Massive Attack reveals depths I never thought my listening space could accommodate. In classical music, such as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, or Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring the speakers demonstrate remarkable dynamics, transitioning seamlessly between quiet passages and orchestral outbursts.

Despite the meticulously engineered aluminum structure, the sound remains warm and emotional, as evident in songs like Into My Arms by Nick Cave or Harvest Moon by Neil Young.

One notable advantage of the S5 is its relatively short break-in period (most of the break time is already done at the factory)—within a few days, the sound stabilizes, and the soundstage expands. Compared to the S3 2023, both share a similar tonal quality, but the S5 delivers higher volumes effortlessly and produces rich, deep bass even at low volumes.

For listening spaces over 40 square meters, the S5 is the preferred choice (or the S3 paired with a subwoofer). For those seeking a top-tier listening experience but unable to afford the M6 model, the S5 2024 is an excellent alternative.

Enjoying your first person impressions particularly using your recording references. Very consistent with my experiences. The primary difference for me has been the duration of the break-in process. For my pair, while their transparency was immediately apparent, the bottom octaves remained restrained and the extension top and bottom was fairly tight for the first 150 hours or so. At that point the smaller, lower level structures of the music became more resolute, particularly in the midrange, but the bass was not yet energizing the room. Over the next couple weeks the wonderful midrange became more completely fleshed out. The organic richness of the music that you mention came into its own during this period. It wasn’t until ~450 hours that the bass energy and extension started to match what was happening in the midrange and treble.

Now >600 hours in I have stopped concerning myself with the break-in. I am fully focused on enjoying my most familiar music in its latest incarnation provided by the S5. In a very happy place. Please continue to share your thoughts as you listen to more music.

Thank you for sharing your experience—it’s great to hear how the S5 evolved for you over time. What speakers I’d you used prior to the S5?

I’ll keep sharing updates as I explore more music! Glad you’re enjoying yours so much.

Incredible report, thanks very much for sharing your experience and test tracks! I'm really curious how you are comparing the M6 to the S5. They must be quite spectacular to be mentioned in that way...Although I've not heard the M6 it's always been on my radar but for sure out of my league price-wise. If the new S5's are even close then these are indeed a tremendous value in the Magico lineup.
