I live in a neighborhood where the smallest plot of land is 1 acre and the smallest plot belongs to me. However, even though my yard is 1 acre, I seem to have more mowable area than anyone else in the neighborhood because lots of people have property that is woods. My yard was never graded very well and as a result, my yard has deteriorated every year with more grass dying out and more weeds coming up and more dirt showing up. I hired a landscaper to re-grade my yard to smooth out all of the bumps and help with drainage and to re-seed the entire yard. I took a bunch of pictures to show how crappy my yard looked before he started and I took a bunch more tonight to show the grading work the landscaper started.

I sold my John Deere GT-275 mower for a large number of reasons and bought a Kubota diesel lawnmower. The Kubota is all-wheel drive with a hydraulic deck and has power steering. Still, every time I mowed my yard/dirt/weeds, because the yard was so uneven, it jarred my teeth loose. I am hoping that with the money I am spending I will actually have a nice graded yard with good grass. I will post pictures later to show the before, during, and after shots.

My kubota tractor beats my brains out over bumps too. These things have no suspension whatsoever. I literally can get a bad back from it even though mine has one of those suspension seats.

There is a very expensive solution though :). You get a Quad/ATV and pull a separate mower behind you. The Quad will have much better suspension and will be far more comfortable. I plan to do that but not looking forward to spending $2K on another mower. The other is what you are doing which is smooth the dirt more. Our is 6 acres so that is not going to happen.

Hey Mark, how does one go about re-grading an entire acre? Does the landscaper come with a grader or are there other ways? I'm familiar with road construction but large scale lawn construction is totally alien to me.

Wernher von Braun lived not very far from where I grew up. I remember that there was a stir because he rarely cut his grass. It was so bad that neighbors threatened legal action, and media got involved. Genius that he was, von Braun solved the problem by having his entire lawn paved with concrete that was painted green. The neighbors had to live with it, but they were still unhappy. :D

Jack-Yes, the landscaper comes with a tractor and some attachments and a bucket on the front. One attachment breaks up the soil, another attachment is called the pulverizer, and then final attachment is a box grader.
