For the last 10 or so years, we here in the Philippines have had an annual Hi Fi Show, usually slated in the first or 2nd weekend of November. Yesterday, I was very glad to get an invite by Jack to help 'man' their room via playing some records from my own collection and in so doing, get a chance to operate the fabulous TechDas Air Force 3 with a Phantom arm and TechDas cartridge. I was told while operating it that I could 'own' it, but I thought it was a dream. As they say, if you can't own it, you can at least pretend to own it. It was a great show as usual, with lots of old friends visiting Jack and Keith's VS/Lamm/TechDas set-up, wired by the amazing Masterbuilt cables, and the PureSound Men-in-Black, as Jack and Keith are known locally, set the room blazing with their just arrived Mercedes Red VR 55 Activ loudspeakers, handsomely priced at $65,000. Off the crates only a few days and into the show, they sounded really good, very much improved from the older sets of VR 4 or 5 series in terms of transparency, open-ness, dynamics and a wonderfully 'sweet' midband. And yes, the bass is tremendous as well, amazing for a couple of 8 inch drivers per side. There are many other rooms with excellent sound and fabulous audio products as well, as here are some pictures.
