Melody MN845 Tube Amplifiers

There is a misunderstanding. Of course Amperex or even GE on Kagura sound better than stock. I said on my prior post that Kagura with stock tubes is better than other amps with NOS I mentioned

Ah ok. Got you.

Are these compares possible now too at your/your friend's place?

What speakers is he using?

Does adding Amperex or WE or United to Airtight change the balance to make it better than Kagura stock?
ATM-3211 has GE 211 tubes. My friend does not consider replacing them. Actually two other friends have 4 or 5 pairs of United 211 tubes but using 2 pairs is very expensive considering the price.

It’s not possible now, not until end of summer. ATM -3211 with Estelon X diamond

I don't think that speaker is a fair comparison for quality of SETs as it will rely more on the power of the drive. If there was a more efficient speaker which all amps could drive easily, then other characteristics would have come in to play, apart from the drive alone.

You’re right. SET is probably the best design approach only if you can find the appropriate speaker. And that’s a big if.

NOS 845 tubes are unobtainable and you are limited to Chinese 845 tubes. You can never ever get the top performance without NOS tubes. Never,

I recommend forgetting about 845 amps and aiming all NOS tubed ATM-3211 mono blocks if you need a powerful amplifier.
What is wrong with Thomas' Elrog 845s?

It's sterile, analytic and hard sound.
Interesting. I have no experience on the matter, but I know Phil Ressler (213cobra), a tube aficionado with Elrog 845s in his Absolare SETs, would not agree with this.

Thank you.

can you please ask him the old stock that he compared to, so that we can check if his judgement is different from mtemur's, or his experience is

I heard Absolare 845 amps various times and I know the owner of Absolare personally. IMHO those are exceptionally smooth sounding amplifiers. Recent production of Elrog 845 tubes might evolved but I highly doubt that. Elrog 211 also sounds like transistor. Those are my personal opinions, I might be wrong or other people may think differently. Personal preferences.

What 845s does the amps come stock with? And, which 845s did you hear the amps with? Thanks

I have a pair Ron. Smooth as silk.

Hi Jack,

How would you describe the sound of the VA200 versus the sound of Jadis JA200? Or versus some other well-known tube amplifier?
