Out of these 5 systems, wich one woul be your choice ?????

http://www.higherfi.com/million/

For me it would be system #4 without a doubt.

I've seen that web page before. That dealer seems to throw together gear that may or may not be synergistic. Pricey, yes...sounds great..who knows? By the looks of the combos, i would VERY much doubt it.

BTW, i agree with you Mr. Acoustat, I would pick system #4 as well.

I wonder how many people are actually attracted by Chris Moon's approach.

My choice is #4.

GROUP BUY ANYONE???????

I wouldn't pick any of them.

As far as #4, it's a rare SS amplifier that could sound good on the IRS or its successor. Only one I ever heard work was the ML out at HP's many years ago. The ML were on the dark side and that compensated for the IRSs sound.

Interesting, need to get some more expensive tube products so they can be listed.

I wouldn't pick any of them. Lot's of unknown quantities especially the speakers.

Also interesting that #4 includes $30K for a xover. So I guess they're dumping the Genesis stock xover (not a bad idea) but what would they use?

Myles have you actually heard the G1.2 before? I've only heard them once in a large warehouse which was far from ideal. Genesis own mono blocks seemed to power them no problem in that large space. The bass and treble are adjustable on all Genesis speakers as far as i know.

I would personally not just plunk down that much money for a ready built system, unless it was the best sound I had ever heard. Even then the sound would probably not be the same in your own room. I have never heard any of the other speakers on that list. If I had to choose it would be #4. Then I would sell everything but the speakers and start over again. Probably save half a million. Then I would spend that on a good room to put them in.

Where I possibly had the most experience with the big Genesis was at Lyric listening at those times with Arnie Nudell. :) Arnie liked his music loud and ballsy. I just never like the Infinitys RS1a/b series, IRS or Genesis driven by solid-state. Too bright for my taste (even with the ability to the balance the different drivers). Problem is that some of the "brightness" is the parts quality, capacitors, wiring, resistors, etc.; people who rebuilt their IRS or RS1bs had a very different animal. (and we're not going to start on the servo, though sure Gary can chime in on what challenges he was presented with.) Or maybe the speakers were just too revealing.

OTOH, also had lots of experience with its predecessor.

As far as sound, it usually works the other way around. One can generally obtain better sound at home than most high-end stores I've been to. :(

Well that's true. Same with shows of course. Too many compromises involved.

I'd be willing to bet that Gary has changed the design quite a bit since the last time you had heard them. Whether you would like them more is anyone's guess.

Oh I know Gary has put a lot of effort into the design of his new statement speakers! We've talked a little bit about them :) It does seem, however, that Gary seems to favor ss on his speakers eg. Viola, Burmester, etc.
