Hello all!

We have heard a lot of interest in a collaboration with Taiko and integrating the Pro ISL system with Taiko servers. This post here is to generally update and let everyone know where we are at in this process.

Happy to say, after some productive discussions in Munich with Emile, we were able to lay out plans for a collaboration to provide a Pro ISL output for Taiko. As soon as we got back to California, we sent out a development kit and DAC for them to test with. It sounds like it is all hands on deck at Taiko to get this solution up and running. There are 3 other server companies working on Pro ISL integrations, so it will be interesting to see who get's there first ;)

We will be providing the following Pro ISL output card which they will integrate directly to their XDMI interface. These output cards are complete and in stock, available to any server/source companies looking for integration solutions.

We also want to clarify, for some folks may have been misinformed, MSB has not consulted on or has given any contribution to the XDMI interface. The XDMI is Taiko's tech and hard work, so I just wanted to mention this to squash any of those rumors. Give credit where credit is due.

As soon as they have it working and we certify it meets our bit perfect performance with clock feedback functionality we will be sure to announce it here. We have a very high standard and will ensure the final solution meets our performance requirements. This will bring Taiko integration to all Discrete, Premier, Reference, Select, Cascade, and Sentinel DACs with a Pro ISL input module.

Keep us posted on your progress @Taiko Audio !

Thanks, Daniel. Is there Innuos too in this short list?

Luca,

We are working on establishing introductions with them and they are on our radar. We didn't have time to discuss in Munich, but will be following up. Not part of the other 3, but maybe they will make that number a 4 soon!
How about Antipodes? Asking for a friend...

Thank you for the announcement Daniel! At Taiko we’re beyond excited that after our initial contact, over 2 years ago already (!), we’ve finally arrived at the stage where a dream has become reality.

Also many thanks for lending us a Reference DAC for testing/verification purposes.

I’ve just finished unpacking it and am now installing it into our system!

Emile, how do you feel the MSB integration is going? Think it will release this summer? Cheers.

As we already implemented all hardware requirements with the redesign to the modular version of XDMI it’s more or less “just” a matter of firmware / driver support now. I cannot give you a firm eta but I would not expect it to take months.

Emile,

Glad it arrived so quickly! Excited to hear how the development goes. We are always available if you need any assistance.

Daniel

P.S. I am itching to look over your machine shop and help out where I can ;)

Yeah we’ll be in touch on that! Especially chip/waste management is somewhat of an headache. We switched to larger buckets but that’s obviously not a solution :)

Emile,

Check these guys out:

Also, going for the densest chip possible will help. The 3 things I would target:

Tool Holder: I would recommend going for a Schunk Hydraulic Chuck
Like this: https://www.grainger.com/product/45TA05?gucid=N:N:FPL:Free:GGL:CSM-1946:tew63h3:20501231
Go for the shortest length on the hold that still reaches the depth required. Rigidity is everything and the Haas machines can be a bit floppy. Short tool holders are a great place to start. The hydraulic chuck helps with some dampening and gets a bit more out of the Haas.

Tool: I would secondly recommend a chip breaker endmill designed for Aluminum specifically. Maybe 25mm diameter. Spec one that is your full depth of cut, no step downs.
Like these: https://www.helicaltool.com/products/tool-type/aluminum-non-ferrous/roughers-for-aluminum

Toolpaths: Lastly, make sure to be using a HSM toolpath at full endmill depth. Use the full length of your end mill. If you are struggling with torque, slow the RPM down using the Power Torque chart for your specific spindle. This will allow you to get thicker chips. If you can double your chip thickness, it will reduce the chip volume by half. This along will make one of the biggest differences.

Let me know if any of that needs clarification!

Hi @Taiko Audio , I realise you are pushing hard on Olympus, but is there any update you can share on the software progress?

@Taiko Audio
Hi Emile,
With new servers beginning to ship, and almost a month having passed since any new info on the MSB related XDMI development, any chance we can break the WBF question embargo and bother you for an update? Cheers...

Hi @MarkusBarkus ,

I'm unaware of a WBF question embargo :) The hardware part is finished, PCBs are on order, the software part is nearing functional tests, possibly even taking place this week. However I cannot give you a firm eta on when it's actually ready to ship.
