New Album & The Beginning of Basketball Season

Pau Gasol will join the Spurs. Pretty decent numbers in his Bulls days. There seems be some powerful alliances these days by good players to strong teams. And we thought the cap was made to 'neutralize' these power blocks. Next year the cap goes to a whopping $115m thereabouts. We might be looking at $40m per annum salaries.

Celtics again figure in such talk...So do the Lakers...

Wade leaves Heat (almost unthinkable) for the Bulls. So Bulls now have Rondo and Butler and Wade to play their brand of small ball. Noah, Rose and Gasol are gone. Heat's future is now anchored on their almost $30 million man Whiteside. The guy reminds me of Andrew Bynum, who could have been a multi-million superstar center today if only....

Bird finds a human pogo stick who can block guards shooting threes and even big men like the unibrow. He also gets cash in the deal. Really? I may be a Lakers kid but Larry Legend may have me converted yet. There's that wing defender the Pacers need and offensive rebounder to boot. Pretty sure they will make the second round.

It's about time the East gets better. Imagine only 1 contender in the last few years? :D

Bird seems to be in the rebuilding mode, Jack. And it's coming along nicely.

Warriors hire Mike Brown to replace Luke Walton

oh no!!

The upside is that Brown knows the Cavaliers well or he'll be there so that the traveling king can shove him and get a T. :D

Lakers resign Huertas. Why? LOL!

Would not want to be Hoiberg with three starters who want the ball in their hands a lot (Rondo/Wade/Butler) and four who can't shoot reliably (+ Lopez). Good luck Fred.

Warriors' Draymond Green arrested for assault

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green was arrested for an alleged assault over the weekend in East Lansing, Michigan, according to online court records.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the city where Green played for Michigan State from 2008-12.
An East Lansing police spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking details. Messages seeking comment were left for Green.
If convicted of assault or assault and battery, Green could face 93 days in jail, a $500 fine or both. The Warriors said the team was collecting information about the incident and declined comment "until we have a better understanding of the situation."
Records from the East Lansing District Court show that a $200 cash bond was paid.

NBA announces rules changes for fouls away from play

NEW YORK — The NBA announced today that its Board of Governors has approved rules changes for the 2016-17 season pertaining to deliberate away-from-the-play fouls.
"In looking at the data and numerous potential solutions to combat the large increase in deliberate away-from-the-play foul situations, we believe these steps offer the most measured approach," said Kiki VanDeWeghe, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. "The introduction of these new rules is designed to curb the increase in such fouls without eliminating the strategy entirely."
Rules changes relating to deliberate away-from-the-play foul rules:
* The current rule for away-from-the-play fouls applicable to the last two minutes of the fourth period (and last two minutes of any overtime) -- pursuant to which the fouled team is awarded one free throw and retains possession of the ball -- will be extended to the last two minutes of each period.
* For inbounds situations, a defensive foul at any point during the game that occurs before the ball is released by the inbounder (including a "legitimate" or "natural" basketball action such as a defender fighting through a screen) will be administered in the same fashion as an away-from-the-play foul committed during the last two minutes of any period (i.e., one free throw and possession of the ball).
* The flagrant foul rules will be used to protect against any dangerous or excessively hard deliberate fouls. In particular, it will presumptively be considered a flagrant foul if a player jumps on an opponent's back to commit a deliberate foul. Previously, these type of fouls were subject to being called flagrant but were not automatic.
These rules changes were recommended by the NBA's Competition Committee at its offseason meetings.

Football player says Green punched him

DETROIT (AP) — Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green struck a Michigan State football player in the jaw during a weekend confrontation near campus, tried to apologize and then had to sit in jail for a while until he could sober up, according to a police report released Wednesday.
Senior cornerback Jermaine Edmondson -- who the school announced Wednesday night has received his release to transfer -- claimed he was punched by Green early Sunday outside a restaurant in East Lansing, though officers patrolling the area said they saw or heard a loud, open-handed "slap."
Edmondson said it was his second confrontation with Green, a former Michigan State player, in two nights. He told police that he and his girlfriend were choked Friday night by men who were with Green at Rick's, a bar near campus.
He said he spotted Green the next night and tried to talk to him, according to the police report released to The Associated Press.
"I walk over and I tell Draymond that last night wasn't cool," Edmondson, who is from Canton, Ohio, said in an email to police. "As he responded to me he began to poke me on my shoulder and I tell him that he doesn't need to put his hands on me, we can just talk. As I started to talk again, boom, I'm punched in my jaw."
He said he had a headache and pain in his neck and jaw.
Green was arrested and taken to the East Lansing jail where he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.10, police said. He was released when sober.
Green said "he was sorry for slapping the subject and wanted to speak with him to make things right," Officer Jeff Horn wrote.
On Wednesday night, Michigan State said in a release that Edmondson was given his release and has decided to play his final college season elsewhere. The announcement from the athletic department included no mention of the alleged altercation between Edmondson and Green.
"In discussions with Jermaine Edmondson following spring practice and in the weeks thereafter, it became clear that Jermaine wanted to play a larger role on the team," coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement. "After consulting with him in the summer, he felt it was in his best interest to finish his playing career elsewhere."
Edmondson had 24 tackles last season. He was listed as a third stringer on Michigan State's spring depth chart.
If convicted of misdemeanor assault and battery, Green could face 93 days in jail, a $500 fine or both.
"My legal team is handling it. It will be resolved really quickly," Green said Tuesday in Aspen, Colorado. "As a public figure, I just can't put myself in certain situations. It's something that I'll learn from and move on."

I was watching a Summer League game and there was mention of a trial using 4 referees. It wasn't to clear to me, but the 4th ref may be watching the game via a monitor and is able to whistle for infractions. I'm all for that. They get to fine hard working coaches for open criticism of refs off court and cause sudden blood pressure surges with bum or non calls on court. There's got to be some justice in the league.
