Clippers are looking better but they haven't convinced me yet. I remain cautiously hopeful. :)

The reality IMO is that the West is wide open and finishing in the standings as first seed might bring no benefits

Vanessa Bryant 'devastated' by report deputies shared photos of crash, lawyer says
  • Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- The widow of basketball star Kobe Bryant is "absolutely devastated" by allegations that deputies shared graphic photos of the helicopter crash scene where Bryant, their 13-year-old daughter and seven others were killed, her lawyer said in a statement Saturday.

The Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday that a public safety source with knowledge of the events had seen one of the photos on the phone of another official in a setting that was not related to the investigation of the crash. He said the photos showed the scene and victims' remains. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the allegations.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said in a statement Friday it was investigating the allegations detailed in the newspaper's report.

Vanessa Bryant's lawyer, Gary Robb, said that she went to the sheriff's office on Jan. 26, the day of the crash, "and requested that the area be designated a no-fly zone and protected from photographers."

"This was of critical importance to her as she desired to protect the dignity of all the victims, and their families. At that time, Sheriff Alex Villanueva assured us all measures would be put in place to protect the families' privacy, and it is our understanding that he has worked hard to honor those requests," Robb said.

Robb said the sharing of photos would be "an unspeakable violation of human decency, respect, and of the privacy rights of the victims and their families."

He called for those who shared the photos to "face the harshest possible discipline, and that their identities be brought to light, to ensure that the photos are not further disseminated."

The Times also reported on Friday that the sheriff's department quietly ordered deputies to delete any photos of the helicopter crash scene after a citizen complained that a deputy was showing the gruesome images at a bar in Norwalk, California, two public safety sources with knowledge of the events said.

With yet another Bucks victory today and with the thought that records are meant to be broken makes me wonder if the Bucks will make 70 W's or even more

The are 52-8 so have 22 games left . They need to win 18 of their remaining 22

Clippers let the 76ers back in the game but finally won 136-130

Star of the game for the 76ers was Shake Milton with 39 points. Shake had his coming out party today subbing for Ben Simmons. Unlike Ben, Shake can hit the three point shots.

Tell me this isn't so and that Le Bum isn't instrumental in this......Smith hasn't played in a year and Waiters is still waiting

Reports: Lakers to work out Dion Waiters, JR Smith
Veteran guards are both former Cleveland-era teammates of LeBron James

From NBA Twitter and media reports

The Los Angeles Lakers may be looking to add some scoring for the playoff push in the form of a former LeBron James teammate.

ESPN's Dave McMenamin and Adrian Wojnarowski report the Lakers plan to bring in former Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters for a workout on March 2. Additionally, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports JR Smith will work out for the Lakers later this week as well. Smith has not played in the NBA since last season while Waiters played in three games with the Heat earlier in 2019-20.

Smith teamed with James in Cleveland from 2014-18 and proved, at times, to be a critical piece for the Cavaliers in their run to The Finals each of those seasons. In Game 7 of the 2016 Finals, Smith finished with 12 points on 5-for-13 shooting (2-for-8 on 3-pointers). Things went down hill for Smith after James left the Cavs to sign with the Lakers before the 2018-19 season.

He played in just 11 games that season and stepped away from the team in hopes of being traded or released. He was ultimately waived by the Cavs last summer and has been awaiting a new team since then.

Waiters last played on Jan. 28 of this season and has been dogged by poor conditioning and suspensions. He was dealt to Memphis as a part of the Andre Iguodala swap in early February, but was cut by the Grizzlies shortly thereafter. Oddly enough, Waiters was a part of the 2015 trade that brought Smith to Cleveland and sent Waiters to Oklahoma City for the next 1 1/2 seasons. He then signed with the Heat as a free agent in 2016 and had an up-and-down tenure with Miami from there forward.

There are significant ties between Waiters, James and the Lakers, per Wojnarowski and McMenamin. Waiters was a client of current Lakers GM Rob Pelinka back when he was an agent and is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports -- who also represents James and Anthony Davis. Per ESPN, the Lakers have been interested in acquiring another scoring playmaker for their second unit.

The Lakers are 46-13 and lead the Western Conference, holding a 5 1/2-game lead over the Denver Nuggets and LA Clippers.

I thought the Clippers were going to build their own arena.....

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer in advanced negotiations to buy The Forum from MSG, sources say

LOS ANGELES -- LA Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is in advanced negotiations to purchase The Forum in Inglewood, California, from the Madison Square Garden Company, an acquisition that would clear a major hurdle in the Clippers' efforts to construct a new home arena in the vicinity, according to league sources.

The Clippers would neither confirm nor deny the report but issued the following statement to ESPN: "The Clippers continue to pursue plans to build a state-of-the-art, 18,000-seat basketball arena and entertainment complex in Inglewood and are currently working with the city to successfully complete the comprehensive Environmental Impact Report.

We are examining every possible way to resolve our differences with Madison Square Garden Co. regarding our new arena."

MSG declined to comment for the story.

The current owner of The Forum, MSG, which also owns the New York Knicks, has been locked in a protracted legal battle with the city of Inglewood and Ballmer for the better part of two years over Ballmer's parcel, which sits a mile from The Forum.

MSG, whose executive chairman and chief executive officer is embattled Knicks governor James L. Dolan, alleged that the city violated an agreement not to promote competition to The Forum by working with the Clippers to develop an arena nearby. MSG also claimed the city deceived MSG by convincing it to cede land near The Forum for a technology park that was ultimately sold to Ballmer, in what MSG characterized as a back-room deal. Murphy's Bowl LLC, the entity owned by Ballmer to advance the Clippers project, intervened in the proceedings to represent the Clippers' interests in their arena project.

After MSG filed another suit in January, this one against California governor Gavin Newsom and California's Joint Legislative Budget Committee over legislation that accelerates the approval of development projects, Chris Meany, the lead developer of the Clippers project, responded in a statement: "Today's filing of yet another meritless lawsuit by the Madison Square Garden Co. is the latest desperate attempt in an all-out legal onslaught to slow the development of the proposed Clippers arena in Inglewood."

There are three active suits in the battle, including two by community groups, including IRATE (Inglewood Residents Against Takings and Evictions), an organization bankrolled in part by MSG. The Environmental Impact Report for the project was submitted by Inglewood to the court on Dec. 27, with a 30-day window for community groups and interested parties to respond with concerns, a timeline that was extended another 30 days on Feb. 10.

After the most recent torrent of lawsuits, the two sides began engaging in substantive discussions to resolve the stalemate. Sources say a potential sale of The Forum proved to be the path of least resistance for both sides, which have collectively spent tens of millions of dollars on litigation, with more actions to adjudicate. Sources say an agreement is imminent.

The Forum will continue to operate until a Clippers arena is fully constructed, and possibly beyond. The Clippers struck a deal with Inglewood in 2017 to explore the development of an arena complex on 26 acres approximately a half-mile south of a new NFL stadium being constructed for the Los Angeles Rams.

Since 1999, the Clippers have been co-tenants of Staples Center, owned and operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), which they share with the Los Angeles Lakers and the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. In January 2013, the Clippers agreed to a 10-year extension of their lease that would keep the team at Staples Center until June 2024.

Ballmer, who purchased the Clippers for $2 billion in 2014, has long sought to be the sole owner of a basketball complex, not an occupant in a multipurpose arena. The Clippers have long regarded themselves as a "third tenant" at Staples Center, where they receive a smaller share of proceeds from suites and club seats than the Lakers and Kings and a lesser say in scheduling.

Ballmer, the wealthiest owner in the NBA, has long maintained that a state-of-the-art arena would provide a true home-court advantage for the Clippers. It would allow the team to explore technological innovations, from expanding broadband capacity to offering fans an augmented reality experience. The Clippers would also tap additional revenue streams such as concessions, and construct offices and a training center. The team doesn't own its current practice facility in Playa Vista, California.

"The other side is just trying to slow us down a little bit," Ballmer said amid the rancor with MSG last September. "But it's another thing where we're grinders. We're long-term players, and we're grinders."

When you have as much money as Ballmer does...well, you don't let a guy like Dolan get in your way.

You'd think Dolan would be more focused on his own team.

The grand plan of LeBron is about to come to fruition. Has any famous NBA player in the past been so 'scheme-matic', in being a GM/player? This is one category which he is truly great at.
