New Album & The Beginning of Basketball Season

If the swap goes on with Kyrie, that would be ironic as it was Kyrie who recruited KD to Brooklyn., And he gets the boot. :D

Latest on Nets trade target James Harden: Rockets reportedly want either Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving

Scott Thompson

I have a hard time imagining Harden matching with Giannis and the Bucks

And with Jimmy Butler I think trouble in programmed:
Butler won't give up his team leader role that easily should the Beard go to Miami

Oh and regarding KD: I just cannot imagine the NETs letting go KD. At all!! ;)

Paul George $190. I guess you are right.
OOPS! Perhaps that was a Freudian slip. $190million.
Someone is being polite. PG is a perennial non-factor in the playoffs.
Greg
It would be interesting had PG teamed up with LeBron with the Lakers. Would PG have been a factor and 'helped' LB get a ring. ?? NAH..... :D Credit the man with a 'eye' for talent here. :D

The "securing Kawhi" must be the reason.
I can not imagine any other sane reason for that

More than LeBum?
No one is allowed "earn" more than the self declared King!
That will give him a VERY hard time to digest :p
My son was shocked too when I told him PG will make more than LB. Maybe it's a psy war ploy by GM Franks to rattle the ego of LB, specially when the 2 teams meet. :D

Hernández: Paul George's new extension hinges on Kawhi Leonard staying with the Clippers

Dylan Hernández
Fri, December 11, 2020, 12:08 PM GMT+8·5 min read

“Again, it's Kawhi's decision. I'm a grown man. If he decides to go elsewhere, that's a decision that I'll be happy for him. But my hoping and my responsibility, what I would love, is to play with him for the rest of my contract or the rest of his contract. I guess I have to work on that when it comes to his time.”

Earlier in the day, Showtime released the episode of the “All the Smoke” podcast on which George appeared.

On the podcast, George said it was Leonard who informed him last year that a trade to the Clippers from the Thunder was possible. Leonard was a free agent and had told the Clippers he would sign with them if they could acquire George.

At one point, George said, “me and (Leonard) was on the clock, on the hourly clock, like, ‘Yo, what they saying on that side? They saying this on my side.’ So we were just hip to hip with what was going on. Everybody my side, his side, working together to where, ultimately, man, we was able to pull it off.”

With the two players working in concert, it’s almost certainly no accident that Leonard structured his contract the way he did, in which he wouldn’t have to decide about his long-term future until after they showed him how they treated George."

Larry Legend should have kept Kawhi as in 20/20 hindsight, my team never got past the conference finals with Hill anyway :(

I'm just bummed that my big "What if" turned out busted in the bubble. The two home boys dying to come home end up playing all away games in Orlando! Not making excuses, just saying that I can understand what PG was saying about darkness, literal darkness even as Jadis said. I was cloistered for work study in Central Florida for five months away from family, and I was just a couple of years younger than them then. It's sunny but for me at least it was wet heat not sunshine.

True, Jack. But just like Kobe, the other interested party who 'drafted up' were the only ones who saw such hidden talent, though I read that Pop did say that upon doing that pick and trade thing for Kawhi and Hill, he was telling his camp that he wonders if this kid Kawhi can shoot. :D

For my NBA soul buddy Christoph, since Google news keeps sending me these kinds of news. So there was a precedent for these much talked about 'special treatments'. :D

"Kyrie Irving saw LeBron James get 'special treatment' that he never got during Cavaliers days says @bwood_33 while on Instagram Live w/ @TheRyanHollins - http://bit.ly/3gxgs7K "Randy Mims gets to fly on the team plane; this is ‘Bron’s best friend?"

"It’s easy to forget now, but there was a time when Kyrie was the “chosen one” for the Cavaliers. Before LeBron’s arrival, Irving was their guy for years. Apparently, when Bron signed in 2014, it came with special privileges that not even Irving enjoyed. That clearly rubbed him the wrong way.

Needless to say, it would play a role in his eventual departure and, years later, a scent of disdain still lingers between them.

Looks like the “Kings” royal treatment can come with some nasty side effects."

Former Cavs Player Reveals Why Kyrie Irving Dislikes LeBron James

Maybe KL should have received the money. If his{KL) ego is so fragile how will he handle PG making more money. Don't get me wrong. PG is a great player. He de serves what somebody is willing to pay.

Man. you guys on the other side of the world are talkative this morning

I maintain that PG's contract was insanity on Ballmer's part and to hear that it was to keep Leonard as a Clipper. For over $85M over 2 years is pretty amazing considering he was a total choke in the finals and was nowhere to be found

as for Kyrie and LeBron, Phil, IMO LeBron has produced in every franchise for which he played. To me Kyrie is a snake who would sell out his mother and truth be told I wonder how long KD will put up with it but as far as reuniting KD and Harden in Brooklyn is certainly something to think about but let's face it both Harden and KD departed OKC because they need to be numero uno. Period.

Bottom line is the league is bursting with talent everywhere. I believe Atlanta and the Sixers are going to surprise this yearend one more big name to either team might change the low in the east fir a few years

And finally, I hate to say it, but IMO was shocked by the off season trades the Lakers made especially no more Dwight or Javale and now Marc Gasol. The Lakers are where the Gasols go in their golden years yet Pau came away with some rings. Of all the teams I really believe that the Lakers are well poised, at least, to defend their title but we shall see. I'd love to see AD driving down I 405 in an $850K Porsche hybrid. AD is the future of the Lakers. What he and LeBron do in these next few years could be interesting.I wonder how the Rockets feel, trading Westbrook for Wall and now wonder about where Harden is going. I still maintain that KD made a big mistake by giving up on the Warriors and going to the Nets to join that idiot, Kyrie. Wonder how long before Kyrie is demanding he handle the ball more than KD. To me the team belongs to KD and not Kyrie so expect some pouting on his part as the season progresses

To me the unknown will be how COVID will impact league play. Hopefully as the vaccine is now available the players will have opportunity to receive it. The other unknown is that the season is 72 games and losing those 10 games for a shorter season will IMO affect a lot of team standings as they hustle at the end hoping to qualify for the playoffs

Kyrie just got hit with a $25K fine for NOT opening his mouth. :D

I agree Steve that KD made a big mistake in bolting Golden State. But I read that that spat with Draymond was so hot it really hurt KD and it was too much to bear. Too bad for the Warriors.

Totally agree. Ballmer could have renegotiated Kawhi's contract I suppose but paid huge to PG who comes with all the reputation but as Jack said "I can understand what PG was saying about darkness, literal darkness even as Jadis said" I disagree. Everyone was under the bubble and faced the same things as everyone else. Forget the darkness. They didn't learn how to cope and adjust and I still maintain that Kawhi is a kid in a giant's clothing. The Clipps might be his team to win some rings but tell me, has he ever once assumed the role of and showed everyone that he is the team leader in SAS, Raptors or even the Clippers. He has zero social skills and I have to wonder what it is like for the other players on the team who also were paid to do a job which they do for a fraction of Kawhi's contract, yet they show up every night to play and don't have a Load Management in their contract. It should be called the Leonard Rule as the LM seems to only apply to him.

I will never forget the look of complete "wtf just happened" as the Nuggets put out their lights and we said good by to Doc

Nuff said. Admire Kawhi's talents but he needs to develop leadership and maturity and to stop having a wonderful night on the bench laughing with PG as his team is defeated because it was a LM night. That takes brass cajones as far as I am concerned

Well, ready or not, safe or not safe, trade or not trade, NBA starts tonight with the 5 preseason games. And with most of the stars sitting out, we get to watch a lot of newbies and scrubs warming up the season.

Are you ready to rumble??

Game on

What a way to start
Clippers vs Lakers at Staples to an empty arena

Lakers resting James, Davis, Caldwell Pope and Morris and Gasol and playing their entire bench

Clippers playing PG and KL

Clippers 40-35 with 4:31 left in half

Harrell in a Lakers uniform is quite a sight . Man did he pound the Lakers last years.Interesting though it looks like he has lost at least 20 pounds

What reporters can learn from Kyrie Irving calling them ‘pawns’

If the media wants athletes to be better, then we have to be better, too

BY MARTENZIE JOHNSON@MARTENZIE

One couldn’t be blamed for reacting to the most recent Kyrie Irving news cycle with a heavily sighed, “Boy, if he don’t get …”

The mercurial Brooklyn Nets point guard and his employer were each fined $25,000 by the NBA on Thursday for Irving’s refusal to speak to the media since the beginning of training camp on Dec. 1. Three days later, Irving released a statement that read, in part, “Instead of speaking to the media today, I am issuing this statement to ensure that my message is properly conveyed. … I am committed to show up to work every day, ready to have fun, compete, perform, and win championships alongside my teammates and colleagues in the Nets organization.

“My goal this season is to let my work on and off the court speak for itself.”

Irving, not letting his play do the talking, posted on social media Friday an apparent reaction to the fine:

“I pray we utilize the ‘fine money’ for the marginalized communities in need, especially seeing where our world is presently. [I am] here for Peace, Love, and Greatness. So stop distracting me and my team, and appreciate the Art. We move different over here.

“I do not talk to Pawns. My attention is worth more.”

Oh, brother. Here we go again.

The easy way out for everyone – the media, NBA fans – would be to chalk this up to Kyrie being Kyrie, ignoring the substance of what the 28-year-old said in order to further criticize – or laugh at – his bloated ego and even more bloated hotepery. (Irving also quoted Malcolm X in his Friday statement.) Irving has repeatedly taken an ax to his reputation over the years, from his reported tumultuous relationship with his teammates on the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics to boneheaded public comments, the most controversial being his thoughts on the flatness of Earth.

But, as is the case with most things, this Irving situation is complex.

On one hand, Irving has an obligation to talk to the media. Not to get all slave-mastery, but the league has a $24 billion partnership with ESPN and Turner to broadcast games, and also has guidelines that require that players speak to reporters after games and practices. Irving knows this, as he is a vice president of the National Basketball Players Association. Irving may be annoyed by reporters and their questions, but the least he can do – the absolute least – is answer some questions for five minutes. (For the uninitiated, media scrums last only about that long.)

Irving makes the jobs of beat reporters harder by not answering their questions. Imagine if Irving didn’t speak to the media after his season-opening 50-point game last season on the one-year anniversary of the death of his grandfather. That career-defining moment loses a bit of its luster without Irving’s cooperation. Not to mention, there’s a risk other players would decide that they, too, don’t want to talk to the media. Cooperation with the media means you get Damian Lillard’s “Paul George got sent home by me last year in the playoffs” or LeBron James asking for some “damn respect.” Less media access is not ideal for anyone.

At the same time, members of the media, myself included, need to take a long look at ourselves as well. Irving didn’t decide to call us “pawns” out of thin air.

Before the advent of social media and player-backed media outlets, journalists owned a monopoly on coverage of athletes. When you wanted to learn about your favorite athletes and teams, or conversely, when athletes wanted to set the record straight on something, they needed the local sports reporter. Newspaper columnists were once considered among the most influential people in sports, because they helped determine public opinion on this player or that coach.

But over the last decade – notably when James went on national television to say he was taking his talents to South Beach – things changed. Where there was once the local and national reporter, and maybe a blogger here and there, now there’s James’ UNINTERRUPTED media platform, Kevin Durant’s Thirty Five Ventures and the Derek Jeter-backed Players’ Tribune, which broke the news of Durant’s decision to join the Golden State Warriors in 2016, among other scoops. Plus there’s the athletes’ own social media accounts.

Players realized they didn’t need the media anymore. And could you blame them? Many of us abused the relative power we had as purveyors of news. We called Durant “Mr. Unreliable.” We turned James into a villain because he didn’t want to play for Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert anymore. We called Irving every four-letter word under the sun for questioning the circumference of Earth. Trolls on the internet and fans in arenas did the same thing, but we in the media are supposed to be better than that. The line between criticism and pure meanness was long crossed.

These are the consequences.

It’s easy to dismiss what Irving said because he’s the wrong messenger. We – society, not just the media – did the same thing over the summer when Irving rightfully questioned the league returning to play in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and the protests following the police killing of George Floyd. Because Irving, like millions of others in this country, hadn’t spoken up in the past about race and inequality, suddenly his opinion that the NBA would be a distraction from the social unrest was met with ridicule. For a Black man playing in a predominantly Black sport that’s covered by an overwhelmingly white press corps that downplays his dedication to social justice, it should come as no surprise to that same press corps that this Black man no longer desires to speak with them.

If the media (reporters, journalists, writers, bloggers, podcasters, analysts, commentators, etc.) wants athletes like Irving to be better, then we, too, have to be better.

If not, it won’t be a matter of whether or not we are pawns on a chessboard. We’ll find we’re the only ones playing the game.

Seemingly everyone is down on the Clipps. i'm not so sure about that. I will give two names that I feel confident will be much more known to the public by the end of this season. Terrence Mann and Daniel Oturu. Who? The guys the Logo stole off of the last two drafts. Expect Mann to play point at times and a big line up of Mann, PG, claw, Ibaka and OTuru at times. 6' 7" Mann can play the 1 and 2 and has size at 3. He, i predict will be their swiss army knife. Oturu is 6' 10' with a 7' 3" wingspan with great footwork on the block, has a handle and has major hops. If he can learn to be an efficient switch help defender at the rim watch out should he play the 5. His free throw percentage at 85 ish percent suggests he should develop range with at least "don't leave him open" efficiency. I'm confident they will develop because Coach Lue has no choice but to use them. SGA and Harrell are gone.

This is a roster where PG and Kawhi need less minutes on the floor together to be potent. A "small" lineup of Mann, Chicken Wings, PG and Claw at 3 and 4 and Oturu would be an open court nightmare for opponents. Heck give Batum some time at 5 even. Morris is slower. Makes me wonder how Lacob couldn't keep Jerry West who was the guiding hand in building the Dubs dynasty from the Draft.

I'm not sleeping on these guys even if my Western heart prays for Golden State's Oubre and more so Wiggins to finally breakout this year.
