So change the Desktop picture or uncheck the translucent bar option in System Preferences

It has to burn in for awhile. Then it gets faster.

No, for real. I've already noticed that some operations are lightning fast where there used to be a noticeable lag before upgrade, even if that lag was only a fraction of a second.
