Price Of Gas

Everything cost more in Canada: gaz, cell phone rates, Internet speed rates, movies on Blu-ray, DVD, music on CDs, SACDs, hi-res downloads, rents, homes (Victoria, Kelowna), cable TV, Internet TV, satellite TV, cars, trucks, boats, ferry rates, airport and airplane rates, ...everything even beer. Our government is taxing everything...even cigarettes ($10/pack).

In Canada we pay for everyone else...all our taxes goes towards helping the poor...even our golfers and hockey players.

Gas was almost $5 a gallon @ one point...to help financing the poor in Texas and in the Arab countries.
In Europe (France) too they help financing the world poorest countries.

Brief, Canada and France we help you guys to have better prices for your transportation and entertainment...that's how generous we are...and peaceful too. :b
Ask us anything and we'll give you everything. ;-)

* And Mike, if the gas is cheaper in Texas it's because Texans not only have oil but also because they are friends with other countries who have oil too.
They have good long-term deals between each other, and they help each other too in controlling their investments/assets. ...Smart business people....with black gold. And speaking of gold (real gold), guess who has the most? ...Like hotels with furniture, bathrooms, skyscrapers, etc., all made of gold.

Gas is a luxury, a necessity, a polluter, a devil, a money rolling business...big time. In Alberta...Leonardo Di Caprio is speaking up, Neil Young too, and Justin Trudeau, our prime minister; they all have some' to say.

Fracking is expanding, and with it earthquakes.

People fight and die for gas...oil. And we all contribute each and every single time we put gasoline in our lawnmowers, chainsaws, boats, cars, trucks, snowmobiles, tractors, ...tra-la-la all that jazz.

@ least when we play golf we use electric carts. ...And ice on a ice skating ring can be maintained with electricity.

Electricity? ...Water?

Everything cost more in Canada

Tell me about it :)

That's why I left in 1978. Winter, OHIP and high cost of everything. Bear in mind that gas in Canada is per liter as Bob points out. i remember when I was growing up in Toronto that the price of gas was usually cheaper than in the USA and there price of gas was baed on an Imperial gallon (5 quarts per gallon rather than the usual 4 quarts per gallon

Imagine is about as good as it gets. LOL! The state of the roads here is getting worse all the time...at least in S.Calif; cannot talk for N.Calif. I believe that there are trillions of $$ sitting in CALTRANS's pockets.

The roads suck here too. The reason isn't just money for maintenance. The roads are poorly constructed from the git go. They aren't deep enough. The thought being that they save money at the outset thinking that it will cost less to fix the potholes later. Sorry, the roads are just falling apart. Really shortsighted.

I read that was the strategy of Arab counties: to reduce the oil prices until that industry goes belly up. Did I hear oil was just $34 a barrel??? In an interview with one of the Arab royalties they said they need the price to be $60 for them to break even.

I have heard exactly the same thing and as a result the devaluation of the oil industry is one of the factors affecting the stock market now in such an adverse way

Gas is well below $2 in NJ now -- paid $1.65/gal for diesel recently which is ridiculous. We have the lowest gas tax in the country I believe, rate hasn't changed for decades. Among the many reasons many of the roads absolutely suck out here, almost third world in places.

Read earlier that Exxon's profits dropped around 25 billion from same quarter last yr.

That is strange. I blame the Arabs for the high price of gas. They formed what would be an illegal cartel in the U.S. and manipulated gas supplies. Why would they drive prices down? It is all they have.

I've read the break even point for frackers averages $60 per barrel.

The Saudi's cost to produce oil is approximately $3 per barrel.

So, Saudi's make less money at today's selling prices but are still quite profitable.

Frackers are under water.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for oil producers, frackers or not. They were very happy to gouge the rest of us when prices were $100 per barrel.

True but I would bet they could go a very long time without making money before they would even feel it

It's not just the Arab's. It's all the biggest players in the industry. They just want to crush all the competition so they can buy them up for pennies in the dollar. But it's not just that, over the last 6-7 years the advancement in drilling and production techniques have gotten so much more efficient, then can get as much as 20x the oil/gas from 1 hole now. Combine that with a massive bubble of drilling and this is the outcome. Massive over supply. Bubbles always pop hard when they correct. It doesn't matter if it's oil, housing or whatever. Moving forward, I can't see prices ever getting back to $100 a barrel. And during this slow period they are going to be focusing on even more efficient ways for extraction, production and refining. So this will reduce the demand for manpower even further.

Not when you include all the bills they pay to run their countries/themselves the way they do. It was on that basis that they said it had to be $60 or higher for them (said Arag country) to break even.

It is interesting that frackers would have the same break even point.

You guys! Gas is cheap in the us and Canada! Try coming over to the uk! The price of a barrel of oil is just one part of the puzzle, refining has to be taken into consideration as too the increasing cost of speculation and the increasing challenges of getting to the oil. We kind of had the low laying fruit.

As for the mass hysteria you seem to be indulging in, in regard to what is driving oil prices down... Well no one that's posted here seems to have any kind of a world view. Bit of a worry but not a surprise.

It's a case of the a decline in demand and the level of stock in certain oil producing countries being a little high. Simple surplus! Not a Arab conspiracy! Lol

And yes it's hit the stock market, there is a world economy going on outside the walls of that country of yours you know!?!

The economic down turn or at least slowing of growth in the Far East being a factor.

Maybe but not sure I agree completely with you but I do agree about the slow down in Asia as being a factor

Yes but someone has to pay for the autobahn. ...Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, B&W, Magico.

* In reply to Spaz. ;-)

$1.59 or so in the Front Range of CO... I think I paid $2.15 for premium yesterday, gotta love turbocharged motors.

The fact US companies stopped fracking is a blessing. In one county NE of here fracking has had some horrible side effects.

OPEC and the Saudi contingent are doing some non traditional things for sure Steve, Putin is not in Assad back yard out of kindness. It's all interconnected. Russia are losing out big time, oil is used for lots of things after all.

I remember $10 a barrel in the mid 90s.

Don't worry gas is cheap in the us, after all you don't have the single largest employer of people on the countries dime... Nhs lol.

opec will have to go some to screw up the world economy like you guys did with sub prime mortgages lol...

We are getting earthquakes in Canada now from fracking in areas that were never prone to earthquakes. I was on a drilling rig last year when we had a 4.0 earth quake with the epicentre 5 miles away.

I would imagine it goes for road construction and maintenance, hopefully, just like here in PA.

That would be a reasonable supposition. However, I highly doubt that's where the money goes.

Today you may blame Saudi Arabia for the low price of oil (and gasoline).

There are counties in western PA that gave the same problems.
