PS Audio Full Value of Used Components Trade-In Program

@BruceD, who offers Class D regens? Was your friend specific in what ways the PS Audio design is inferior? I'm curious as I use a P15. I've found it to be superior compared to a number of passive power conditioners I own (which one would hope), but have not yet had the chance to compare it directly to any other active regenerator.

Howie , that is not even close. Casino's may never loose but dealers loose and many close every year.
A dealer has a fixed margin and very large overhead if they have a showroom and gear in it.
They have to pay for all those toys one comes into see and listen too. You analogy is very flawed.
PS is now acting as both manufacturer and dealer with both margins available to them to make these deals with no added over head other than some freight costs if there are returns ( and of course repacking costs)
It was all tongue in cheek Elliot. We all know casinos can go bust!:p

I wouldn't touch a PS Audio Power plant-- my EE tech friend tested one and said the PS Audio Class AB design is inferior to the Class D Regenerators. (...)

Interesting - an EE tech would be the last person in the world that I would ask to rank a regenerator for high-end audio. He will probablly focus in aspects that are relevant to most electrical appliances, such as regulation, distortion, safety and reliability, but will ignore the aspects related to subjective sound quality - the main reason why audiophiles buy regenerators.

Hi Tony, Well firstly we should be aware of the differences of the above units--Power conditioning is supposed to filter out HF Noise
while a Regenerator "makes new" power so called free of said noise. My Buddies tests were few years back so no, not the latest models which may be better sonically--like I state we must audition these products for oneself-we do tend to hear differently:)
I was merely stating my own experience and the opinion of a learned colleague with object knowledge of power transmission.
I'm sure your PS product is admirable for your needs--but I may say for future reference --I notice you have Audience cabling--

Try one of the Audience products -while they are conditioners they are respected purveyors of Power Units.
I 've heard them--I think you may be surprised;)

Good listening,
BruceD

Thank you Bruce. I actually do have two Audience power conditioners that were in use before I acquired the P15. They’re very close to what the P15 can give me, but they do not have quite the same degree of “blackness” in terms of suppressing what seems to be noise characteristics that intrude on very low level details (at least in my system). I am otherwise a huge fan of Audience gear, and would recommend both their cable products, and conditioners to those who consider going the route of passive conditioning.

Well what deters me away more than anything else is that the power cord going into the regenerator will reshape the sound of the entire stereo.

To the OT, I like what PS Audio is doing. I think they're an interesting, modern, respectable company. That's my opinion on their business side, as far as sound the opinion may vary.

Hi Micro, Yes fair point --how many times are we swayed or have a seed of doubt sewn into our Audio psych by Scientific means
and persons of reputable knowledge. Ones upbringing comes into play and too much information can be the undoing of just a pleasurable hobby for which we strive to enjoy-ha! Play on and be damned!!

indeed regulation, distortion, safety and reliability, are the factors he is trained to detect and stabilise --but I'd garner some of those qualities should be evident in any power line transfer-but I concur on the Sonics--I have owned perfect groundbreaking measuring Products that have gone back to the dealer the next day:p

I've only heard --and he evaluated an early model of the brand --I'm sure the latest versions are up to spec and performance--after all they are big sellers I gather.

I had one of their power products once, until it actually blew up. Yes, smoke etc and an almighty bang from inside the unit like a shotgun firing. I didn't ask for a replacement!

I've had that happen with one of the PS Audios, I think it was the Power Plant Premier, one of the Class D units I believe. Same job, mighty bang, smoke, etc. Since I was in Brazil, I tried to have it fixed locally, but it was deemed FUBAR, so it went to the trash.

Did that take out the gear you had hooked up as well?

Luckily i had unhitched everything when it started malfunctioning so i just had a smoky room for a while!
How come?
Did you anticipate what's coming

I'm very glad for you
