I dropped Tidal (Premium) in favour of Qobuz Sublime after hearing the difference between the two services. As a bonus for me, Qobuz has a much wider selection of my musical preferences, Jazz & Classical.
I ...hearing the difference between the two services...
Do you hear a difference when streaming 44/16? Or are you comparing Tidal MQA to Qobuz high res?
I have found Tidal’s 44/16 quality indistinguishable from my own ripped CD playback.
But which does sound better to you?
For me it is clearly Qobuz that sounds better than Tidal.
Interesting. My assumption would be that for the majority of 44/16 music, for the same release from a particular label, both services would be using the same CD masters. But I don't know this for a fact. Do you suspect otherwise?
(Of course. with high res, esp. MQA, all bets are off).
An experiment for some rainy day...
I use both Tidal and Qobuz so it is easy to compare. Just play both versionsRe CD Masters: I don’t know, I’m guessing.... but I would encourage you to do your own comparisons if that’s feasible. Unless Tidal have upped their game in the last year I’m sure your conclusions will be the same as mine & many others who have jumped ship.
When I consider the amount I have invested in my stereo gear over the years, and the amounts I have spent on CDs,SACDs, etc., maintaining subscriptions to both Tidal and Qobuz might be an easy decision. It all depends on which one I use the most. I must admit that having to skip past all of the hip-hop in the opening screens on Tidal to get to my preferred genres of classical and jazz is really annoying, and could end up being the deciding factor.
